Step Families / Divorced parents

This is kind of Wedding related -

1. How many of you have step siblings that you are afraid or were are going to be ureliable/ annoying on your wedding day?
My Brother and Girlfriend and intolerable.

2. FH parents are newly divorced and super, super bitter. FH and I do not want them to bring dates with them to any of our wedding functions..... did anyone have issues with this? Belive me none of the bitterness will wear off By the time the wedding rolls around.

Re: Step Families / Divorced parents

it's been 11 years my parents are divorced and they still won't talk to each other. Mom couldn't even say 2 words to stepmom at my shower...and stepmom put it all together with my sister (my MOH)!!!

They aren't sitting anywhere near each other at the wedding....

and I have 2 stepbrothers, 1 of which I can't stand, but his GF is a BM cuz I LOVE her...and the youngest stepbrother is more like a real brother...I've known him most of his life. He's doing a reading for us! I can't wait!

yikes - my cousins shower was like that.
No one really noticed except ones who knew the situation though.

I am not being a brat about the date thing, I (we) have our specific reasons. My biggest concern is not having FH hurt by seeing his mother/father dancing making out with someone. Second that I know they will act that way. They loove to out do each other.

I think since neither of your FH's parents are remarried or in very serious relationships then you can tell them no dates. I'm sorry that you and FH are going through this. I know if I had gotten married years ago I would be in the same shoes as you. Mine still don't speak but the bitterness has subsided over the years.

Good luck!

My parents are divorced and both re-married. Thankfully, my parents are very very civil to eachother as are my step parents. They only want what is best for me.

to you.

My parents have been divorced longer than they were married and for many years it was very bitter. But the birth of my nephew 5 years ago helped that. These two people had NO choice but to learn to get along because now they had a new baby to love and watch grow up. My mom and stepmom are actually 'friends' and threw both of my showers together.
Honestly, tons of people annoy me so I would not limit this to stepfamilies in terms of a wedding
people may or may not be reliable but there is little you can do about that.
Forcing the in-laws to not bring dates will just make them more uncomfortable. Treat them as adults- and invite them with their dates and sit them at different tables. They will behave because they have to. If you and FH need to speak with them each privately beforehand and stress the importance of the day that is fine, but most adults will act like adults on a day like their child's wedding day.

Re: Step Families / Divorced parents

haha!!

I am the youngest of two my father and my mother had together.

I am also 1 of 10 total children thanks to the newage 'extended' families.

I have 4 step siblings
I have 3 adopted siblings
I have 1 half sibling
I have 1 full blooded sibling.

I don't want three of my step siblings at the wedding. Moslty cause their trash and I have little to no respect for any of them. One I do respect is so out of touch (thankfully) with her mother I doubt she knows Im engaged. We got along great. Same age.

All three of my adopted siblings are part of the bridal party.

My half sibling is not invited. I like her and want to be closer to her, but she is part of a package that includes my biological mother. That woman is most definately not invited.

My brother is coming to the wedding (i hope).

My stepmother will be there, but she is not really wanted there, I'll have her excluded from most photos.

Jim's parents divorced in the past 5 years. Bitter doesnt describe how his younger sister and brother feel. They're pretty pisssed off at him. Jim doesn't care for him much either. He is not invited. However seeing as his grandmother is coming and it is afterall her son who is Jim's father, he may try to show up.

Sometimes I feel I have more people on my DO NOT invite than my actual invitation list.

My parents are divorced and get a long great. The only problem...My evil stepmonster I can't stand her and I already had a talk with my Father. I don't want her there. My family and i have always been extremely nice to her. But she's just an evil person. Although she hates me she all of sudden wants to come to the wedding. I honestly believe she will do something to ruin the day for me. Thus, she's not invited. There are really many more reasons why I don't want her there that I will not go into here.

I have a similar problem with FH's family and it makes us JUST WANT the whole wedding ordeal over with - his parents are divorced - and FFIL, FSMIL and FMIL can't be in the same room together

FSMIL refused to come to my shower since FMIL will be there.

FFIL and FSMIL REFUSED to come to our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner because FMIL will be there - IN FACT FFIL told us to tell the church to go to H@ll that he will NOT attend even though they require ALL parents to attend -

At our e-party they did all attend - but FMIL ran around telling people that 'that women stole MY husband!' ugh - then FFIL and FSMIL were RUDE to my family and our guests. They just kept on and on with the comments ALL day it was a painful experience - we worry about the wedding day.

They insist IF they attend ANYTHING they MUST be placed on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the room from FMIL -

OH and FFIL and FSMIL REFUSED to invite ANYONE to the wedding - BUT insisted we sit them with MY family - and FH's MOTHER in the corner - so He is going to have a small table in the back corner and unfortunately since he won't invite anyone FBIL (our BM) and FSIL will be sat with them

Sorry I'm on a vent roll

Re: Step Families / Divorced parents

Wow Im not the only one worrying about this.

My parents have been divorced for 25 years they are best friends, my steparents are awesome people who I love.

My Stepbrother and I were super close, my Stepsister I could do with out but i am inviting anyway. My Stepbrother has become super unreliable and an anger filled young man in the past two years and it frightens me. I wanted his daughter to be in the BP but I think of the drama it could cause and its not even worth it.

FFIL FMIL act like they are 17 years old - I dont enjoy venting about them here but FFIL decided he couldnt deal with engagement / meet my family brunch my parents hosted and didnt show up. FH's sister didnt bother showing up either btw. My parents did not hold this brunch at the ground round and they had already paid for them by the time they let us know.
I just feel like our wedding should be about FH and Myself not look who he's with - look who she's with.
