Ok, my step-father has been in my life since I was 5 years old (23 years and counting). I was raised by him and my mother. My sister and I are the only daughters he has. As of 3 years ago my mother and him aren't together anymore.
My dad is in my life and I will be dancing with him at the wedding.
I feel like I have to do something for him. I don't want to take away from my dance with my Dad but I don't want to leave my step-father out. I also don't want to stop the party for too long by having all these individual dances.
Anyone have any suggestions?

What about if you dance 1/2 the song with your dad and the other 1/2 with your step dad?

I think that really takes away from the mother-son dance. I don't think that's fair at all.
I'd just have a third dance. You can space them out so they are not all in a row.

Why don't you pull him out to dance when a certain song comes on (tell the dj to play it) but maybe not necessarily announce it to everyone but you 2 can still have a special moment (and make sure the photog is close by to get some great pics)

Thanks, this is a great idea! Can I sort of have the DJ dedicate it to him from me?
I mean really I shouldn't be complaining. I have been lucky enough to have had 2 wonderful father figures in my life, but I am the oldest daughter so I am just afraid of taking any moment away from my Dad.
I wish I could have them both walk me down the isle, but I know that my dad is totally looking forward to that and I cannot take that away from him.
I don't want to dance with my step-dad during FH's dance with his mother because I also feel like that might take away from their moment. Plus, if I dance with my dad (all by ourselves) and then follow that with a dual dance with my step-dad and FH and FMIL it will certainly feel like some people are more important than others. And I do not want that.

That's what I was thinking...or 2 separate dances at 2 different points in the night.

Have 2 dances at seperate times? Ask Step Dad to do a reading? Have both walk you down the aisle.

Re: Step-father Dilemma
Can you talk to your dad about it ahead of time, also, and tell him how you feel? That way you know for sure that on the big day nobody is feeling like they've had their special moment taken away.

Why don't you dedicate a song to him and dance with him, but also have the DJ know it's okay for others to join you on the dance floor?

Re: Step-father Dilemma
nah i would have 2 dances dedicated to each dad just you and each of them two separate times 100% they both deserve it, i am sure
it will give your guest another reason to cry
and if they dont like it they can go to the bathroom
a extra song is only what 2 minutes?
go for it!!!!

Re: Step-father Dilemma
I am having the same problem. My parents are divorced, Step-father has been in my life for about 10 years now. The only thing it was a messy divorce, so step-dad and dad don't really care for each other. I decided I am having my mom and dad walk me down the aisle. My step-dad is going to do a reading at the ceremony, and then We are going to do 3 dances. One with me and dad, one with FH and mom, and then Me and step-dad. At first I thought that would take to much time away from the reception, but I talked to my DJ, and we are going to cut the dances down to like 1-2 minutes each. This was it won't be so long. I know it's a tough situation, and you don't want to hurt anyones feelings, but thats what we've decided and dad and step-dad are okay with it.

Re: Step-father Dilemma
I would dance with both dads... use a shortened version of the songs- still will be about 2 minutes- so total it will be about 7 minutes of dances- not bad at all and then both will feel special

Thank you ladies. My mind isn't made up yet but I certainly have some options to think about.
