sticky situation - need advice

sticky situation - need advice

Need help on how to handle.

A very close friend of FH and mine came to our e-party and told us there that they were getting us a gift but they didn't buy it yet. Months later, we still haven't received a gift -- the friend acknowledged at dinner about 2 months ago that he still needed to give us the gift, to which his wife exclaimed, 'you didn't get it yet!' then she told us it would come in the mail right away. We never got anything. Then a few weeks ago, we were at a party for someone else, and a friend who couldn't come to our e-party showed up with a gift for us! This triggered our friend to say, 'oh yeah, your gift will be coming soon.' Of course, we haven't received anything.

What should I do? I don't expect to receive gifts, but when someone tells you 3 times they are getting you something and then they never do, how do you handle it?

sometimes people have sticky financial situations and they are embarassed to tell you...

The next time its brought up you could tell them (privately) that you understand that if they are having financial trouble.. no worries - it is just important to you and your FH that they share in the joy and happiness of your marriage and all the events that lead up to it... I would not be upset, we don't know what goes on behind closed doors with other couples.. they may be struggling...

I don't think there's any way of handling it. I know it stinks that you keep being promised a gift, but I wouldn't confront the person.

I would honestly ignore it.. If they get you the gift then great, if not then oh well. I don't think you can really say anything to them or ask where your gift is. If they say 'its coming' for a 4th time, just tell them that it is really not necessary. One of my FH's GM told us at our engagement party that he had our present in the trunk... still haven't seen it to this day!! we just ignore it.. maybe they dont have the money and feel silly.

Wow that is really weird ... I would just talk to her and tell her that you dont expect anything if they arent able to get you anything .. u understand how the economy is and if they are in a bad position you understand and maybe she'll open up and tell you something?!

ignore , ignore , ignore and smile politley.... they could have money trouble, just be forgetful etc. no reason to wonder .. just smile and say 'oh stop it' etc

honestly at this point i would just say dont even worry about it. because if it was coming it would have been in your hands already! So i would just 4 get it.

Me neither. I kinda think its rude to confront someone over a gift.

For instance, I kept telling my friend I was sending him a gift for his wedding (destination) that I didn't go to in July. And I meant to send it, I really did! When I had the card, I didn't have my checkbook, when I finally had both of those, I didn't have a stamp! Haha, long story short, I finally just sent it last week for a JULY wedding.

So it may not necessarily be financial, they may just be forgetful.

I would just smile and tell them it's not necessary. They probably can't afford one, don't know why they keep bringing it up though.

to be honest, I would just ignore them the next time they say it. Im just assuming here, may they really dont have the money right now and are just embarassed to say something or I would say to them 'aww, dont worry about it' the next time it came up again.

i would just forget about it..if they had it u would have gotten it and there is a reason u have not and they might be ashamed for whatever reason they did not give it to u..i wouldnt confront them b/c it might just mortify them more so i would look at it as if they bring it great if not..ill just let it go..jmo...good luck

I agree with most of the other posts. I wouldn't say anything... just ignore it... it's not worth making them view you differently...as if all you care for is their gift. I know it's odd that they kept saying they are giving you one, but I would just let it go. They may be finacially unstable, and then maybe planning on making up to you by getting you a larger wedding gift. Just ignore it... the best advise.

I'd ignore, to me it just sounds like a forgetful man. If I put fh in charge of gift giving, no one would ever get anything.

I agree with this.

I would ignore it. Don't bring it up to them because it will probably make them uncomfortable.
