I am Greek, but since I am Catholic, we will not be having the traditional Greek Wedding Ceromony. But I will definitely be incorporating some of my heritage into the reception:

We will be doing the traditional Greek Wedding dance and other Greek dances and I think the Traditional Greek toast. Hopefully no one will break any plates because that would be !!! Not sure what else yet.

For FH, the traditional Italian dance (don't remember the name) and of course a lot of drinking for his Irish side!

Same here.. I might be doing a carribean theme favor gift bag for our guest.

It will be a little something from each of these countries....

It will represent:
Jamaica
Barbados
Haiti

All these countries will be uniting as one that day.

LOL I'm Trinidadian. i love doubles too but they're more of a breakfast food for me.

We'll be doing the rum cake (black cake). I actually hate black cake with frosting but his mom really wants it and contacted the baker already. We'll be having like 4 cakes anyway so I don't care.

Re: Stole from 06-What ethnic traditions are you incorporating into your ceremony and or reception??

My parents are from Ireland and I've spent so much time there, I will definitely be including some Irish traditions in my wedding.

1. FH and i will be present one rose to our mothers and godmothers (unfortunately no grandmothers left for either of us). The remaining roses will be left at the statue of Our Mother, Mary in the church while the song Lady of Knock is sung. (It's an Irish song about the Virgin Mary). This is done during the Mass obviously.

2. My cousin is playing the bagpipes as everyone enters and leaves the church.

3. An Irish saying going likes this 'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue... and a 5 pence for her shoe.' My mom already gave me my five pence to wear in my shoe. (well, now they have the Euro, so I guess that would change to 5 cents if you don't have any of the old currency!) It's supposed to be good luck to keep the 5 pence coin in your shoe during your ceremony, but that might be uncomfortable, so maybe i'll just tape it to the bottom! :)

4. Traditional dances like the Siege of Ennis and Shoe the Donkey will be played at the reception by an Irish band. Family members who are Irish stepdancers will take the lead and I'll pretend I have their skill.

5. Irish music from the reception... I think I am going to play 'My Father's Immigrant Eyes' a beautiful Irish song that talks about the sacrifice and love an immigrant father made for his child. I think this will be my song for my dance with my Dad... . I am getting teary just thinking about it!

6. And having all my family over from Ireland will definitely make it an Irish wedding.... heehee!
