Strange comment from a photographer...

Strange comment from a photographer...

FH and I met with a photographer from a well-known photography company recently and he made a comment that is still kind of bothering me. Noticing that we are getting married on the 4th of July, this photographer asked what motivated us to choose our date. Once we responded, he told us that any vendor who chooses to work with us on our date is probably skipping other personal events (barbecues, get togethers, etc.) and as such, we should tip our vendors more for coming out on our date.

Now, maybe I'm crazy here, but shouldn't the vendor companies be paying these individuals extra for the holiday - NOT us?? I just thought that was a very nervy thing for this guy to say - not to mention extremely unprofessional.

Seriously, am I crazy to be a little offended by that comment?

Yes this was totally out of line!!!
People in the wedding business should expect to work weekends and holidays!

That's a strange comment....should you tip more because your date might fall on Valentine's day? Isn't it just part of the job?

I agree with you - the company should pay them more, not you.

They obviously don't want your business. Any company that tells you that they expect you to tip more than usual because its on a holiday is crazy. In my opinion they should be charging you less because not too many people get married on that day. I got a similar response from a photographer, who told me that its harder to find someone who will want to work during the 4th of July weekend. Like my Fiance told me, they should be catering to us because we are giving up thousands of dollars. It's not likes it's free in fact its not even like it's cheap. Photography in my opinion is sooo over priced!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the comment was out of line. I am definitely not booking with these people, and it's too bad because I liked their work - but I can't overlook that kind of an attitude.

don't book them. its a day like any other and for this vendor to say that he expects more is just plain rude and incredibly bad business sense. so he missed a hamburger and potato salad, big f'in deal! he needs to get over that if he plans on booking anyone for that day. you have to ask yourself, wouldn't he rather make money that day then not have a single event booked??

Sheesh....it's not like you're getting married on Christmas or something! I think that's a neat day to pick for a wedding, and I can't believe that anyone would make that comment. It's not like you're denying your photographer all of his opportunities to bbq with family...don't people do that ALL SUMMER?

Re: Strange comment from a photographer...

It was totally out of line for them to say that. You might decide to tip more for any number of reasons and maybe you would decide to give more because of the date of your wedding, maybe not. That is up to you but there is no way that a vendor should TELL you why they deserve more of a tip!

There are several great photograohers out there, but there are also several sleazy ones, IMHO.
