Strange comment from a photographer...

Original post by mrsgtobe

FH and I met with a photographer from a well-known photography company recently and he made a comment that is still kind of bothering me. Noticing that we are getting married on the 4th of July, this photographer asked what motivated us to choose our date. Once we responded, he told us that any vendor who chooses to work with us on our date is probably skipping other personal events (barbecues, get togethers, etc.) and as such, we should tip our vendors more for coming out on our date.

Now, maybe I'm crazy here, but shouldn't the vendor companies be paying these individuals extra for the holiday - NOT us?? I just thought that was a very nervy thing for this guy to say - not to mention extremely unprofessional.

Seriously, am I crazy to be a little offended by that comment?

That is VERY rude. I just went to wedding this past fourth of July, and the bride had no problem booking vendors.

Can you please FM me who it was too, I am kind of curious myself!

very nervy of him, i hope you're not using him. they should expect to work holidays in the wedding business.

I would say 'take a hike, you're not getting my business!' plenty of people get married on holiday's - it's not out of the ordinary!

If he thinks it is such a big deal to get married on a holiday, I would spend my money elsewhere.

FYI. I had a simlilar experience with a well known photographer. I went in for a test shoot and he said to my FH & I, Why are you guys so happy? You are only getting married!!!

Please FM to let me know if was the same photographer.

Ok -- I know I am the only one who feels this way, but I do think he is has a point. I do think you should tip more on an important holiday weekend.
(It was still rude for him to mention it)

When I worked as a waitress refusing to work on a holiday meant firing with cause (so no unemployment). We usually made less money, not more.

all vendors are(well should be) aware of that they can be hired any day of any month or if they dont want to cancel their personal parties they should say they dont work on those days. for him to ask that of you is very nervy.

I thought about this post today. I went to a florist who saw the date and said, 'Fourth of July weekend' and at that time I could see this.... Then after she quoted me she said, 'So that's on a Saturday' I told her, 'No, a monday.' I think she over priced me because she thought Saturday and Fourth of July. I'm getting turned off with the photographers and florists. They should be happy that we're giving them business on a Monday and Tuesday!

How rude!!! First of all, a tip is something you should receive for good service. To even be talking about that before you book is a bit presumptuous. Second, did he forget that the bsuiness he is in is a weekend/evening/holiday business? Sheesh.

That's such bull!!!

I work for a DJ and we LOVE those type of dates because we don't get as much businees on them. It's not like it falls on a religious holiday, it's 4th of July, and yes, people do loke to go away (myself included), but that's all part of the business. New Year's Eve is a big holiday and all my DJs know they have to work, or they don't have a job. You can't pick and choose.......
