Strange RSVP

Strange RSVP

Ok I got a strange and kinda pushy rsvp back in the mail today. It's a friend of mine and his partner. They rsvp'd yes but said they need vegetarian meals. Now I have been a vegetarian for about 20 years and have never rsvp'd to a wedding like that....and never would.

Is this a new thing that people do now? I don't have a veggie choice as an option for dinner because there aren't that many guests who need one. I just told the place that I will need one and possibly some other people.
I really don't know what to make of this. Do I need to respond to the rsvp?

that is a bit forward! i would not respond just have the RH have a few more on hand.
but that is strange!

Hmmm..I honestly do not know if that is a typical response.....maybe he wasnt trying to be rude but was telling you so you would know to tell caterer.....

I don't think it sounds pushy...Maybe they thought they were making your job a little easier by letting you know

I don't think you need to respond. I would just check with your RH to make sure they will have something on hand for them. My place required me to have a veggie choice. I asked if I could just find out who would want that but he said no he has to have it on hand anyway. At least you have a heads up or the place does.

I think I might appreciate a response like that. Some halls have vegetarian meals ready, some halls require to be told in advance. I'd rather someone let me know on their RSVP, I think that was smart! They may have had a poor experience in the past?

You definitely needed to know that an alternative has to be made available for them.

my sister and my fbil are vegetarians and I was really worried about what they would eat. There's always pasta and salads but their plates cost the same as the person that's having Chilean Sea Bass and i think they should be offered something more memorable than that. I was assured that the chef can pretty much whip up whatever they'd like.

My sister was like, 'whatever you want to do is fine' but I know that fbil is pickier.

Yeah, it's better they say something now rather then at the wedding.

Don't be mad. You're better off knowing now so you can tell your caterer. It's not a big deal. It can be hard for vegetarians to eat out. But I'm sure your caterer will be prepared for that.

The hall should be able to make veg plates without it being a choose, mine is, we have several veg. I think it was good to let you know in advance. Veg that don't eat fish could end up starving.
