For the past few weeks I have been noticing a nasty smell in the bathroom of my apartment. It isnt there all the time, but it comes and goes. Right now it reaks.
I did some research on line and I noticed that it must be coming from the toilet. It has to be clogged or the seal at the base of the toilet has a leak. I didnt notice any water coming out of the base, so i think I am going to rule that out.
I think the toilet is clogged. I tried to use the plunger to get it un clogged but that didnt seem to work.
What else can I try? I dont want to have to call the plumber. Does any of that liquid Plumber stuff work on toilets? Thanks, Scott

Are you sure it's the toliet?
All I know is that we had a disgusting smell in the bathroom also...it was the shower curtian!!! Mildew or something...yuck! It didn't have a speck of dirt on it, but it stank!
when we demolished our bathroom...the worst smell came from the sink.....

It is either coming from the shower drain or the toilet. The shower hasnt been used in over a year, so I doubt it is coming from there. I tried to plunge the toilet last night but I dont think that worked. I am probably going to have to get a plumber to come over....

Scott does your landlord have a sump pump? We sometimes get the smell because of that, if we go away and the toilets haven't been flushed in awhile and even if the landlord are whoever else is in your home doesn't flush that can cause yours to smell.

i think I know what you're talking about b/c we get that smell. We have a sump pump b/c we live in long beach and dont have sewers. If we dont use the bathroom., it starts to reek! it smells so gross!!! just kepp flushing a few times when it does smell to get it flowing and you should be good!!

Well my friend came over yesterday and snaked the toilet. That isnt the problem. His father is a plumber, and he told us to check the vent on the roof...It may be clogged. He said if I am only getting the smell when it rains, then that is what the problem is. My brother in law who is a contractor is going to take a look at it on saturday.

I doubt it. It would smell all the time then....It only smells when it rains.

Scott they don't have a sump pump? That also usually happens when it rains or is real damp.
