I was wondering how many of us are planning to wear a strapless dresses and if anyone is using a wrap, jacket, shrug or bolero? I love the look of a strapless dress and would like to wear one but my grandmother is freaking because she thinks my shoulders should be covered in church. I'm not sure if a cover up will take away from the dress. I thought it would be a fair trade to wear the shrug or bolero in church and ditch it at the reception. What do you ladies think?? Any suggestions??

Re: strapless dresses
Im wearing strapless.. have no plans to wear a cover up.. then again im getting married at the hall...(though-i still wouldnt if i was in the church)
the veil will be on or past your shoulders... so maybe that will make her feel better...
I think it would take away from the dress.. and its your wedding you shoudl do what you want! but if you find a nice one that makes you happy as well.. go for it!

Re: strapless dresses
my FGIL also mentioned something about covering up in a church. If you feel that you WANT to cover up, then go for it. I personally feel that there is no need, It's not like I'll be wearing a mini skirt with a tube top. It's an elegant wedding dress, and it's also 2006!! 2007 when we get married!!

Re: strapless dresses
TRADITIONAL ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCHES REQUIRE THAT YOUR SHOULDERS ARE COVERED. I THINK THEY MAY HAVE DONE AWAY WITH THIS REQUIREMENT. I WOULD CHECK WITH YOUR CHURCH. I BOUGHT A STRAPLESS MAGGIE SOTTERO AND IT CAME WITH A MATCHING SHAWL. CHECK WITH YOUR DRESS MFR. IT MAY COME WITH A SHAWL.

Re: strapless dresses
I might wear a strapless gown - I love the look - i think it just makes the whole feel of the dress look more elegant ... and i will be getting married in the church
my SIL got married in 2003 - and she wore a strapless gown and got married in a church - and did not have a problem. My sister got married in 1994 - and wore an off-the-shoulder dress and also did not have a problem. The veil covers your shoulders - and your not revealing anything (you dont even see a cleavage)

I plan on wearing strapless and I am getting married in the church. I don't think you need to be covered anymore, but I guess I should double check with my church just in case. I think, depending on the dress of course, a shurg will take away from the dress.

Re: strapless dresses
I am getting married in church and having the full Mass and I am wearing strapless. I have a cathedral length veil though that also has a fingertip length veil on top which will be sitting on my shoulders. I don't think strapless in church is a big deal anymore. Also my strapless will not be showing any cleavage... so that isn't a concern either.
my cousin is a seamstress and will be making me a cape/shawl to wear over it, but I only plan on wearing that outside. I want to show off my dress!

Re: strapless dresses
strapless here - and there isn't anyway I will be covering up! Not with all the upper body workout I have to do to show off!
