strapless gowns
This is for newlyweds that wore strapless gowns at their wedding, and for you girls who have worn them in general. I was wondering if while you were dancing, did you feel like you constantly had to hike up your dress? I am pretty flat chested and don't even think I should try on a strapless gown. Since I don't have much to hold the dress up, I want to know if I'll most likely be pulling it up from the top all night. I don't want to worry about that. let me know how comfortable you felt in yours. Thanks!

Re: strapless gowns
it all depends on the dress. i've seen brides hiking their dresses up all through out the wedding, and when i went to try them on - i said i definitely didn't want strapless because of that. but certain designers keep in mind that it is a wedding gown and you are supposed to look graceful (which is difficult when your dress is falling down) so they design the dress to stay up on it's own. you can tell the differences in designs when you try the dresses on.i urge you to try one or two on and see how they feel - don't make your decision yet! you never know which dress you'll wind up falling in love with!!

Re: strapless gowns
i got a strapless gown, however i had spaghetti straps added on for the reception. this way i won't have to worry about it while i'm dancing. also, its kind of nice because i get two looks out of one dress!

My dress was very heavily beaded & although I am not flatchested, I was fine.Your seamstress will fit you properly and you should be fine

Re: strapless gowns
If the dress is altered properly, you will not have to touch it. I am very small on top, and I didn't have to touch mine at all.Happy planning

Re: strapless gowns
my gown had straps but that 'defeats' the strapless dress. I never took them out of my dress or even gave it a thought!

Re: strapless gowns
I am very big chested and when I tried on the strapless gown it looked ridiculous on me and even with the big chest it was falling down. But I found my dream dress and it was halter.

Re: strapless gowns
my gown is also very heavily beaded on top and i do not think it will be a problem. i dont got much on top
but the way they made the dress, i doubt it will fall. i was told that a good seamstress can prevent that from happening.

Re: strapless gowns
I don't think you will have a problem with your dress if it is altered properly; however, pulling up your dress might or can be a psychological thing. YOU can always add spaghetti straps. I didn't think I wanted strapless; however, after I tried one on.....I loved it! I am also small chested.

Re: strapless gowns
If the dress is fitted tight enough in the ribcage and waist area then you will not touch the dress. my advice is to make sure the seamstress tells you that before you order a dress at a particular place. I had a bridemaid's dress altered at Burtons and I did not have totouch mine ALL NIGHT but some girls had their dresses altered elsewhere and they were hiking it up all night. When you go to a bridal shop ask what their opinion about strapless dresses is to make sure they know what they are talking about. And price Burtons because their prices are awesome and the ladies are really down to earth

Re: strapless gowns
My dress slid down a little a few times. I know I lost a lot of weight in the last week, probably about 8 lbs so I don't blame the seamstress. It fit perfectly before that and I doubt I would have had any problems. I suggest that you wait as long as you can for the final fitting and you should be okay.

Re: strapless gowns
Tammy- I had the same problem, right before the wedding I had lost a few pounds so my dress was a little loose but it wasn't a big deal.

Re: strapless gowns
A few people told me not to get a strapless gown for that reason but I did it anyway and I was glad I did. It was fine. I didn't have to adjust it ever.Like some of the other brides said, if it is fitted properly then you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: strapless gowns
Hi!I wore a strapless and let me tell you, I really couldnt fill it on my own! LOL
But I never once felt like I had to pull up my dress. If you have a good seamstress and the right bra your dress should fit you like a glove. I was worried about it, but was as comfortable as could be in my gown. I danced a ton, and never felt like my dress was falling down.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: strapless gowns
I was more comfortable in my gown than anything i have ever worn. My gown was heavily beaded on top, ballgown. I'm also in no way small chested. I was really worried about this, and my seamstress was a magician with it. It's all about how it fits around your waist. As long as it's nice and snug (not tight..comfortable) and doesn't move around when you twist and turn, it won't fall and won't need to be hiked at all. Also, she reinforced the bust darts so they were literally sculpted to my bust line in the bra. Let the bra do most of the work and the dress will fit perfectly.
