So, I recently went dress shopping with my bridesmaids and they asked if I want long/short BM dresses --I figured long would be more formal and then they asked straps or strapless and I just gave a weird look. I guess I never thought about it before. Have any of you? The two girls were both married and said they didn't want their bridesmaids to be strapless since they had a strapless dress and wanted to stand out. Have you thought about this? Do you agree? Should I have them get straps since I have a strapless dress. I am worried now that I have to match my dress with the bridesmaids dresses. If I have a fit and flare should they? I didn't think BM dress shopping would be so stressful ! :)

I had a strapless dress and so did my BMs. You are going to stand out regardless of what the bridesmaid are wearing!

you will stand out regardless of if they have straps or not!!! I let my girls decide whatever they are more comfortable with. seems bustier girls prefer straps for support while the smaller girls didnt mind going strapless. To me what was most important was the my BM were comfortable bc i wanted them to dance and party all night instead of making sure their dress didnt fall off lol

i had my bridesmaids wear a gown with straps, but only for their own comfort! my gown was strapless. i dont think it would matter either way but my girls said the dresses were so comfortable!

It is important to decide what you want but the strapless issue would not take away from your dress. I would give them the option because I would not feel comfortable wearing a strapless dress. I would need to add a little strap but I am on the modest side, most girls would not care about this.
I am having a daytime wedding but wanted everyone in gowns. Shorter dresses are more acceptable during the day though. However, it's really what you want that counts most.
I don't think the cut needs to be the same (fit & flare) but the fabric should 'go' together. If your dress is chiffon or all lace, I would not have the maids in satin. (just my opinion) or vice versa. If your dress is taffeta or satin with a little lace applique in it, satin or taffeta looking material would be ok for them.

Exactly. Some BM's who are more busty may prefer straps for more support but it's a matter of preference

I dont think that it matters. I went into looking for my bridesmaids dresses thinking I wanted strapless and I ended up with a halter top dress. It was what the girls were most comfortable in and they still looked amazing in the dresses.

I always want to wear a shorter dress when I am a bridesmaid and the bride always chooses long, I think my bm's will be wearing short. Strapless dresses are uncomfortable for me because of my bust size but that is usually what the bride picks out and I wear it and fidget with the top all day. I am going to let them wear straps if that is what they are comfortable with. I dont think it has to match the bride's dress.

When it comes to standing out, you will no matter what. They do not have to be the same style as you either. My gown is a strapless mermaid, while my BM's are getting short one shoulder dresses.

Don't worry about standing out. you will regardless. but I choose a strapless dress because I am having a summer wedding and it goes well with all bridesmaids. if some of them are over weight some may not like strapless so it depends. but i go by what looks best for the wedding and their body type and the season. i am also having a strapless dress. we are all wearing sweetheart necklines so i like that look. some dont though. I also picked long because it more formal. you can have the MOH in a strapless and bm in straps to make a lil diff

I picked strapless BM dresses and I am wearing strapless. I actually like the idea of everyone matching. But it really doesn't matter. I am having an issue with one of my bridesmaids though, she does not want to wear strapless. Not sure what to do with that.

My girls wore straps for the church (they actually wore them halter) and then after that they could do whatever they wanted. I did it because I had a couple of girls with bigger chests and knew they would want the support. It wasn't about standing out for me.
The way I see it - its pretty hard to outshine the bride.

I love the contrast. So, my dress has straps and is more on the slim side and theres is strapless and much fuller! I also have an eye for what I like about photos and the way things photograph, so the contrast factor is very appealing to me.

I am strapless and my BM are strapless as well....Howevr, I do have a few LARGE chested bridesmaids, so I have told them that they are welcome to add straps if it makes them more comfortable...

Yea, for me it's not about standing out sorry if it came across that way. It's more of how it will look in photos. All strapless would match, but it seems like alot of skin and chest! I guess I'm conservative! Also the contrast with strap and strapless might look nicer for pics? Maybe thinking too much

My dress is halter, and my bridesmaids have a strapless dress. I never considered strap or strapless, it was just the style my best friend and I likes the most.
