I told my fiance tonight we have to go get our marriage license this week.
He decides to tell me NOW- he lost his birth certificate! No biggie if he was from Long Island...he was born in Queens. How do I get his birth certificate?! (PS- Typcial Man! LOL)
Also- Do I definitely need his birth certificate? Can we give something else?

i'd call because every town is slightly different... i know the TOH has stuff listed right on their site, but i'm not sure if nassau and suffolk vary at all

We had my DH's baptismal certificate and that was fine.

I believe you can use a baptismal certificate. If he's not Christian, however, that would be a problem.
You'd have to order from the city and I think it takes 2 weeks or so. I'm not sure if you can rush it, but 2 weeks shouldn't be terrible.

You can order a new one on vitalchek.com I researched it because I couldn't find mind but ended up finding so I didn't need to order one.

We couldn't find my birth certificate (it's SOME WHERE at my parent's house haha) and Town of Babylon gave me a super hard time about using my baptismal certificate... we had to order a new birth certificate through vitalcheck.com & had it rushed. That was probably my biggest pain with wedding planning

You can go right to the office and get a new one right then and there. Happened to my brother when he needed it for something. And I also got one just because my original was ripped.

I think he can just go to the town hall to get a new one. my FH is doing that right now and pretty sure it's going well since I haven't gotten an OMG text lol. that's long island though but queens might be similar?
I don't get why they can't just take like a passport and ID. it's not like they just hand anyone a passport lol.

Do you need your birth certificate? We went to City Hall in Manhattan and all we needed was a license and a passport - we could have used a BC or some other form, but those were easiest for us.
