I need help! Someone talk me off the ledge! As most of you are prob in the same boat as me, I'm totally stressing about getting a house and paying for a wedding. We don't really have too much to put down, we are trying very hard to save as much as possible. But with payments for the wedding, it takes a big chunk out of savings. All of our friends who are engaged are getting houses and we are struggling to find one! I know I should be happy for them, but it only makes me more stressed bc I wish it was us! My personal opinion is do things at your own pace. I know it can be stressful for you. Especially to see everyone else buying... but really. Your wedding obviously is very important.. you are getting that out the way..the house will happen..BUT dont let it drive you crazy.. TRUST me.. its just more BILLS!!! We wish we could get out of our house right now.. its just more bills, on top of car notes, taxes etc...And with the economy look at it as everything is for a reason!! It will happen.. trust me..

Oh no! Dont stress! I totally know what you are going threw. My fh and I just went into contract on a house last month after looking since we got enagaged september of 2007! It took soo long for us to finally find the house we wanted. Its sooo difficult buying a house and paying for a wedding i dont know how anyone does it. There was this program through the town of brookhaven..called the home consordium grant or something like that...if you live in the house for 5 years you get a grant for your house for a first time home buyer...we did it last year and got a nice amount so it really helped out with closing costs and such..Look in to it! i totally understand times r tough but remember if a house is not in the cards now and u need to be in an aprtment or wherever its fine..u need to do whats best for u two..not what people thin u should be living in..weddings as great as they r can be super stressful just remember to relax and everything will be fine..hth

Ugh I hear you. All I can say is it will happen in time. . they don't need to both happen at once. I am in the same boat, esp since I'm now paying for wayyy more of the wedding than I thought.. and had anticipated being able to move and now am reconciling to it just not happening for another two years or so. . . so I get the jealousy thing too. . I would just say keep breathing and things may happen differently but it will still all be good even if it feels a lot like crying and frustration !

You could try a co-op if you want to own. We aren't ready for a house financially or the time commitment so this is the route we decided to take.
The closing costs alone are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than a house so that cuts down on costs. Plus the down payment will be cheaper because 2 br co-ops are going for less than 200K right now and in some cases less than 150K. FM me if you want any info about the process.

Please don't stress!!! That won't help you at all in the long run. I'm in the same boat as you. I think it as first things first. The wedding date is already set, so I am going to worry about paying everything off first. Then, after that's finally done, we are going to start saving for our home. You can start off by renting a house or apartment and then you can keep your wedding money in a CD to earn more interest..that may help as well. Hope all works out.

I totally, TOTALLY understand how you feel. We're being pressured by our families to buy- buy buy- NOW!
FH and I both work in finance. Our economists are predicting double digit unemployment this year and speculating that the housing market will bottom in 2010. We're thinking that next year will be the optimal time to buy. We have enough now for a nice home, if we rent for a year and purchase next year we can probably have a spectacular home.
My advice is that you do what is best for you guys. Keep the wedding expenses under control and save for your house. It will happen! The opportunity will be there at the right time. It's natural to have jealousy pangs but maybe something bigger and better is in store for you if you just continue to be paitent.

Thanks girls! It does help to hear what other people have to say. Everything that you guys said totally makes sense. I'm going to try and not stress, what is meant to be will be. We are going to look into the grant for first time homebuyers. Anything will help!! Thanks again girls!

i've been there. we're waiting until after the wedding, and it's tough to watch everyone around me make that move, esp since a lot of them are able to do it bc they could live at home for a few years and build up a savings. FH & i couldn't, so it's harder for us. we're def a bit jealous too, but our days will come no worries!

oo dont worry we are in the same boat as u. And im sure most of the girls on here are as well.. Its so frustrating to watch the ppl around me get houses or go on vacation when we are struggling to pay our bills ontop of all the wedding payments.. Im also in search for a 2nd job hopefully it will help us out a bit... Keep ur head up everything will work out im sure! :)

Thanks girls!!!!!! We are looking wherever the price is right. I'd like to compromise and stay in between close to my fam and work, but who knows....I live out east and he lives further west. I'd like to go someplace in between, maybe Holbrook.
