Stressing about a DJ.
How did you know the DJ you selected was right for your wedding? I have met with 3 and still don't think I found the right one. Any suggestions?

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
Thank you. I am looking for a very classy DJ with great taste. My worst nightmare is to have my wedding turn into a Sweet 16. I want my guests to walk away thinking they had the GREATEST time at our wedding and I think that the music will certainly be one of the biggest factors. I would love to have the dancefloor packed. Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
Honestly, this was the easiest thing for me to pick and not something I stressed about. As long as your DJ abides by your rules about what to play, things will be fine, and most DJs do follow your lead, they want you to be happy. I picked a DJ I had never seen before at a wedding and was the house DJ for my reception and most people told me he was the best DJ they had heard!

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
The DJ I picked is a local DJ that all my friends suggested. They all told me how great he was & that he'd play ANYHTING you want. Jen & Matt from this board used him & thought he was great!! He's a nice guy & very reasonably priced. (I don't want any hoopla!! Just great music!)

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
I felt the same exact way. I wanted a dj who blended in and who wouldn't turn the wedding into a birthday party. We decided to go with Spin Around Sound. When we met with the owner Tom he really impressed us and he made us feel that he would work very hard in making our event exactly what we wanted.

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
I am using a great DJ, he is highly recommended within my industry (I am in advertising, and he used to be on-air on a radio station). His name is Tom Gordon. He has a great voice, amazing equipment, and is totally non-cheese & classy. I met w. a lot of DJs who were over the top for my taste- I did not want any club lights or giveaways. Tom is exactly what I was looking for, and he only does weddings, not Sweet 16s or anything. After meeting with many DJ companies, he was the most professional and down to earth person, and my favorite vendor so far.

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
When choosing a DJ, look for someone who offers a wide variety of music from the 50's to today.Decide if you and FH wants giveaways, light shows, an MC and see if this DJ uses this. A good DJ will sit and discuss with you, the type of music he has to offer.
My DJ is a friend of 10 yrs who owns his own company & I have seen him do weddings, and other functions, and I was always impressed of how he played such a wide variety of music and makes everyone, of all ages, get up and dance!
My DJ goes to brides homes and brings a tape of his work for you to view.
I also get to choose if I want, lights, bubble & smoke machines, and the type of favors I want for giveaways.
Also make sure he provides you with a list of play & do not play songs.
Maybe go to a showcase and see some DJ's play before you book.
Good Luck

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
I met with 5 or 6, and I really connected with Music by Michael. So after that, I cancelled all other appointments. I think you just know.Go with who you feel comfortable with, keep looking if you have to.

Spin Around Sound was my choice too & I'm really glad we went with them. Tom really fufilled all of our expectations. Several people said it was the best music they've heard at a wedding in years. Our dance floor was very large & full all DAY!

I second Richsbride - We had Tom and he was amazing. We too wanted someone classy, and not turn it into a sweet sixteen. We were thrilled with the music he played, and everyone danced the entire night!

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
I met with 4, and none clicked. I agree that Tom from Spin around Sound sounded great, and I had a lot of confidence that he would be good - but he could not personally do my wedding, so I did not go with them. I found music by michael - I can't even remember how - but I was so glad I did - from the minute my DH met him, we 'clicked' he put us at ease and helped us tremendously. If you feel you aren't clicking with anyone, I would give him a try before setting with someone you're not absolutely positive about! He was also less expensive than the other DJ's I met with, and he does a photo montage which I wanted. Good luck!www.musicbymichael.com

I second Music by Michael. He was really great when my Fi and I met with him. So professional, no 'cheese', very easy to work with. Give him a look-see!

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
I met with alot as well and some of them really didnt click with me which means they probably wont have a good idea of what kind of music I want, Get in Tune was very helpful and I felt totally comfortable with them, you should check them out, Music by micheal is just another story

Re: Stressing about a DJ.
I'm also going to be using Sping Around Sound and feel that Tom will be able to do the job that I want a DJ to do. I have only heard good things about him. He was the only one that understood the music we like and we felt he could integrate it into the reception well.Welcome New Vendors
