Strike 23929923 of the day

So this upcoming Sunday, FH & I were going to take my parents to the 21 Club for their birthdays. It's an upscale restaurant in the city. They ::coughmyDADcough:: does so much for us, so we really wanted to take them ::coughmyDADcough:: to a fancy, expensive dinner.

Unfortunately, I just went to make reservations and it's CLOSED on Sundays. We can't reschedule; there is WAY too much happening in the next few weeks.

So I need a rec for an upscale restaurant. We'd like gourmet food. It can be in NYC, Nassau, or Suffolk- doesn't matter. There just needs to be a parking garage in close distance if it's in NYC, b/c me and my parents despise the train.

Our budget is generous: we were planning on spending b/t $500-$550 for 4 people for apps, dinner, dessert, drinks, tax, tip.

I want something fancy where we have to get dressed up lol
Any recs!??!

Hmmm . . .I work in midtown and would suggest maybe:

The Modern
Anthos
Town
Brasserie 8 1/2
Nobu 57

I'll keep thinking . . .

Ooooh, I LOVE Gigino's down in battery park city - the food is amazing and the view of the statue of liberty is awesome!!!

There are soooo many choices! If you have a particular kind of food you want, its easier to narrow down!

My absolute favorite restaurants are Babbo and Grammercy Tavern. You cannot go wrong with either of these - gourmet and wonderful, memorable experiences.

Also I would take my FILS to:

Insieme
Blue Hill
Eleven Madison Park - Gorgeous dining room.
Strip House if you want steak.

Peter Luger is delicious but if I am spending that much on food I want a better experience - Its just not for me.

LI I haven't had as many memorable experiences, but L'Incontro in Astoria is AMAZING, and the prices are really good.

All in the city:

Jean-Georges
Four Seasons
Gilt
Cipriani
Le Cirque (new location now)
The Asiate
The Russian Tea Room
The Oak Room at The Plaza

I HIGHLY recommend Gilt bc not only is the food spectacular (as well as the service, decor, ambience), the restaurant is located in the New York Palace which is one of the most beautifully adorned hotels in all of Manhattan. This goes for The Oak Room, as well. The Plaza, in my opinion, is THE most beautiful hotel in all of NYC and the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. And the history behind The Plaza just puts it over the top. It's just a very, very special place.

Jean-Georges is one of my favorites as well, but it is in the Trump and while the Trump is a great hotel, it is not old and breathtaking like the New York Palace.

Thanks ladies for all your suggestions! I decided to go with The Water Club, since my parents LOVE the water. I'm notebooking this thread though for the future!
