Re: String Quartet Prices
I think the price depends on how many musicians you have and how long they play. I paid around 600 for a trio for an hour and half.
If price is really a concern you might want to call some college music departments, sometimes they can put you in touch with students.

Re: String Quartet Prices
The conservatory students go for around $100 - $150/hour per player. $300 for a quarter may be a little too low unless you score it with your DJ package or something.

I agree. I looked into students and ultimately just booed a trio - it will cost me 600. The only reason we splurge for this is b/c we were able to save on some other wedding things - so it all worked out. If you decide to do a string quartet definitely consider Encore Music.

300 is near impossible. More like 800. I am a professional musician ( I play flute, though), and have always charged 150-200 an hour, per person in the group. However, sometimes, because GOOD string players are hard to come by, they charge more than that. I would contact Stony Brook University's music department. They have the Contemporary Chamber Players. Ask them, they might be the cheapest.

OKAY, so I had no clue it was this expensive. I guess $300 didn't make sense. Thank you for the feedback - I appreciate it. My fionce works at Stony Brook University so I'll ask him to call the music department.

I'm getting info from a friend of mine on the knot. She's paying $400 for her string quartet. As soon as I get the info I will FM it to you.

Re: String Quartet Prices
I'm using Counterpoint-it's 425.00 for a string trio for the ceremony. That includes an hour. If I want to add on Cocktail hour, its an additional $325 (I think).
That seems pretty close to your budget. You should call them, they are a vendor on here.

We will be using Counterpoint for the cocktail hour. They quoted us $450 for a trio and $550 for a quartet. They were the absolute cheapest price I could find.
