how many ppl are attending your ceremony?
i was advise by serveral vendors here that a quartet would be over kill for under 150 ppl in an avg size church.....

so i went with a trio... FM if you would like my info from the vendor i choose (in my profile)

i will have around 200 people at the ceremony. it's NOT going to be at the church though! it will be (hopefully if weather permits) an outdoor ceremony at the hall!

FYI, you will need to hire them for an hour, bands don't tend to do half hours or partial hours. Not to mention, you want them playing as guests are seated and then through the ceremony until all of your guests have left the ceremony area.
We had classical trio and I think they were like $700 or so. I booked all three of my bands through the same company so I got a deal.

Re: StringQuartet and $$

Hi,

I am looking for a string trio or quartet myself. My chapel is small (less than 200 people) and I would only be using them for the ceremony music.

Other than Cappriccio Ensemble and CreationsMusic, are there any recommendations for live ceremony music?

hi busybee,

i did a quick search on here (and haven't finished yet), and came up with the following list of vendors for ceremony music:

1) capriccio ensemble
2) royal bass
3) counterpart from gigmaster.com
4) island string quartet

i will be making some phone calls tomorrow, and can keep you updated if you like! let me know!

I don't think that is true. I had 125 ppl in a conservatory and quartet was fine.

We used the Island String Quartet (Ira Kocivar 631-689-9879). They did a fine job. Ira was very easy to work with. We wanted to have a hymn during the ceremony for people to sing to and they were able to learn the song at the last minute for us. Their fee was very reasonable -(around $450 as I recall) better than most.

it depends on what you want...i wanted to save money also and they said that was easy to do (by cutting 1 instrument)... 3 places told me that cause i wanted a quartet orginally.

Re: StringQuartet and $$

You can expect to pay 200 dollars an hour per person for a string quartet or really any other instrumental performer. That's pretty much the going rate, and anything more than that is ridiculous. I would definitely give the Stony Brook University music department a call. They have the Contemporary Chamber Players and various other ensembles that you can get phone numbers for. They will usually charge less because they are students, although the graduate and doctoral students are professional musicians, so it's not like you are getting less for the money. In fact, I would always trust these musicians more than 'wedding' musicians since they usually spend a majority of their time and effort practicing. I used to get a lot of business for weddings when I was doing my masters there. Just thought I'd mention it.
