So I planned to go holiday shopping tonight. H is in the city at a holiday party. My car battery died about 2 weeks ago and I got another one. Ever since then, all the 'check engine' 'check brakes' lights have been coming on. I thought it was maybe nothing, just a setting that got messed up. Well tonight I started out to go shopping and the brakes are friggin' noisy.
And I am pissed because I told H about it and he said he's look at it and we'd probably take the car in over the weekend. That never happened and I have no way to get home if I bring the car in and have to leave it this week. And I have to get to work tomorrow no matter what and I have th go to court (for work) on Wed.
So I left H a message--to call me from the party to tell me how in the world I am getting to work tomorrow!!!
And what am I going to do all night tonight????

Re: stuck at home and very bored
It may be your alternator and NOT the battery. That happened to me on Friday. I needed a new alternator - $270 - FUN TIMES!

I agree. when your battery dies, it's dead, there is hardly ever a warning.
I needed a new alternator a few years ago and the battery light went on too.

Hmmmm, we got the new battery at Sears and I know they check some things. Is the alternator one of those things? I definitely think we should check the alternator now that you've told me, but maybe somehow I should let H think it was his idea, otherwise he'll come up with reasons that it cannot be that!

well then. maybe HE would like to drive your car then? I wouldn't feel safe driving it until you have it looked at.

Lets see. I was driving on the JRP to Bklyn on the way to work and the battery light went on. So I got off the pkwy and took the streets to work. About 6 blocks from work, all of the dashboard lights went on and all of the gauges were going back and forth. Then at a trafic light, the car just stopped dead. The horn sounded like a dying ox. The battery was fine - it was the alternator.
