student loans?

How many of you have student loans??
And is it affecting your wedding/ home search?

My FH has a substantial amount of debt from undergrad just for going to a state school- his parents didn't help him at all so he is on the hook for everything!!!

I on the other hand have a good amount as well, but not as much as him. I went to a private college for all 4 years and no a private school for graduate school. My parents paid a substantial amount of money for school and left me with barely anything in comparison to some people I know, but still a fair amount!

I feel like it will take us until we are 40 to pay this off!!! :(
Ugghhh combined we have nearly 130K in loans!!! this is insane! :(

student loans?

I have student loans. I have postponed my payments though so it hasn't been affecting our wedding. We live together in an apartment so it isn't affecting us at this point either. We have debt but every new couple does. We know we will eventually get into a house. Our lease isn't up until October, 2014 so we do have some time but we may even renew our lease just to have more time to pay some stuff down before we get into a house. We aren't looking to start a family until about 30ish so we have a couple of years. We are just going to see what happens and see how it all falls into place for all I know we decide to get into a house right after we get married.

student loans?

Ugghhhhhh, my loans are in forebearance for the second year in a row, so it hasn't affected us yet. But eventually forebearance will probably be denied to me and I'm NOT looking forward to that day! :-/

But you're definitely not alone. I think just about everybody on these boards is struggling financially. If not for day to day living, then definitely for saving for the big day!

student loans?

ughhhh!! horrible!! i am not in bad shape, pay 325 a month which isnt bad and thats for 10 years. I also pay 200 a month for another loan which is split between me my dad and brother that was used a little each year for our tuition. all in all, my parents paid 90% of my schooling for both private school plus 13 years of catholic school so i will never complain!!! however, it does suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the big killer is FH he has way more than i do!!!!

sometimes i feel like there was no point in going to school! I'm a teacher at a catholic school and don't even make a ton of money!!! hate this economy!!!

student loans?

Thankfully I don't have undergrad loans but I just started grad school this past fall and have been taking out loans to cover it. I keep reminding FH that the debt of that is going to exist when we get married. Especially since I graduate 1 week before our wedding, so technically a week before our wedding I have to start paying it all back!

We are moving in together in a few weeks so my goal is to use the extra money we are not paying for 2 rents to start chipping away at my loans now, while also putting money towards the wedding of course!

This. I have less than this but I feel like I'm going to pay this amount for the next bajillion years.

I just take it one paycheck at a time and know that almost every 20-something year old struggles and thats what your mid-late 20s are for. 30s is when stuff gets better.

And I know this is going to sound horrible... but I also look at some of my friends and I know that I'm better off than they are and that makes me feel slightly better about my life. I know its horrible... but I feel better knowing I can pay all my bills and save and just scrimp on MY stuff.

Do I really want that new nail polish color? Do I really want those new boots? Of course. Do I NEED them? No.

I make the sacrifices I need to NOW so I can have a life with my FH and our eventual children.

student loans?

I do have loans not a huge amount though. I only pay around $150 per month. Besides my student loan FH and I have no debt so I feel very fortunate. I'm just trying very hard to save for our future & not shop. It's not easy but I know in the long run it will be worth it!

Both me and FH have student loans... undergrad adn grad! We'll be paying that for forever.

We want to buy a house within a year (prior to wedding) and it's going to be hard, but we'll try to manage.

FH has more student loans than most couples combined. He has loans for his bachelors and law school both private and private loans for having to dorm(schools were out of state). The payments are so much a month i feel like we're going to be paying them off forever

student loans?

I currently attend one of the most expensive schools for my graduate studies (New York University) and will graduate next year with A LOT of student loans....I'm still attending so I don't have to worry about it affecting our wedding plans. We also started savings earlier when we knew we wanted to get married so we had a pretty nest egg before becoming engaged.
