Stupid Economy

I really believe thats why so many people are not coming. We ended up 17 under our minimum, thats like almost $3000 my parents are just throwing away. *****!!!

We had a 32% no for our return rate. Poor FH, his family's list had 54% say no.

Did either of you have a B list? Or maybe you can invite people with dates that you previously invited alone? Thats what we are doing. I'm trying to look at it as an opportunity to invite people I otherwise wouldnt be able to

yeah i think that has a lot to do with our head count as well! soo many unexpected no's! our min is 175 and we are at 150 so almost there, but the rsvp date is tomorrow! hopefully the rest of the slackers are all yes!!

***** for you parents! maybe you can talk to the RH and see if there is anything they can do? if not all of the xtra cost maybe they can do a little something...

yeah that is a high minimum .. and more think of ALL THE PEOPLE WHO SAID YES!!!

our whole wedding was only 100. . I mean I know that doesn't change your situation but 200+ people is a lot of folks who love you guys. .

that said. . are there any folks you have just started to get to know who are local and who would be psyched to get an invite . ..

It doesn't have a high min, we went with a high one because it dropped the price. I invited 296 people when all was said and done, its hard to believe we are under 235.

We added dates where possible, wasn't a lot to add. We did a B-List, but by the time we got all the nos it was to late.

I am even telling my friends twin brother (who wanted to crash) that he can come.

I think I'm just going to meet my min. I was also pretty surprised. Alot of our guests who are married have decided to come alone, not to mention we still have ~25 who haven't responded even though the RSVP date was almost 2 wks ago.

My RH said they would add a chafing station or upgrade the cake if we didnt meet our min. Call your RH and see what they can do for u.

Re: Stupid Economy

I also have a minimum of 175. But we not only have a B list but a backup plan.

We have been saying ALL ALONG to co-workers and employess that we JUST cant invite everyone. And everyone understands.

But our plan is that if we fall below the minimum we are going to ask the co-workers and employees to come at the last minuite. We know they wont be insulter be asked at the last moment because we have been saying all along 'we WISH we could have you'.

And what if they are insulted? We dont realy care. The crux is we want them there, but camt afford another 20 people. But if we are below the minimum we will invite them.

I would say make a list of people who you want there as a C, D and E list. And I say just invite them.

Good luck and im so sorry about this.

Ugh, I'm sorry!!! So you have a B list though, but you don't think you can invite them now for etiquette reasons? Screw etiquette I say, 3,000 is a LOT of money to go towards ghosts!

I'm sorry! However, I thought this story might cheer you up. My mother's best friend in high school is Judy. Judy's sister decided to get married in February. Unfortunately, there was a huge blizzard that weekend and they had about 30 cancellations at the last minute.

My mom and her fiance (my dad) were invited at the last minute to the wedding and Judy's sister told my mom to bring her sister (my aunt). Well, my aunt didn't have a date so my dad brought one of his friends along.

Well, they were just trying to use fill seats up for dinners that were paid for - but 33 years later - my aunt (mom's sister) and uncle (dad's friend) are happily married with 4 kids.

I know that it is not always nice to have strangers at your wedding - but I know my aunt and uncle will be eternally happy about the storm and no shows. Also, the bride and groom were glad to have contributed to that happy ending.

We did some B list but a lot of the people we wanted were out of town and its to late to get the room block, now its only 2 weeks away, I think its just to short notice. But thanks for your suggestions.
