What exactly does the 'cap' on dress alterations mean?
I thought it meant that my alterations would not exceed that amount ($250). I went for my first fitting today, and when I went to leave, they charged me $400 for the alterations!!! She even said 'You have a $250 cap on your alterations.....' I was a little dazed and in a rush, so I didn't say anything. But when I got home I started thinking about it. My original receipt just says 'alt $250 cap'.
Did I have it all wrong? Or am I being fleeced here?

Re: Stupid question....
I definitley will call tomorrow. I got it at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. I know the bustle is extra, but they charged me for everything else too!
I have a bad feeling about this.....

Re: Stupid question....
I was told my cap is $150...it is also written on receipt and I don't plan on spending a penny over that. I would call them first thing in the morning and question that...it doesn't sound right to me.

Alterations do not include the bustle as far as I know. Maybe that is where the extra came in. I would definetly call and ask what you were charged for.

Re: Stupid question....
Most of the times the Cap dosnt include a bustle, but I didn't think bustles cost $150. If I remember correctly from my friends wedding they charge per button on the bustle... I am really spoiled with alterations (my mom's a dressmaker).

Re: Stupid question....
I got my gown at BR in carle place. There was an alterations cap & a bustle fee which was $90 (But I ordered my gown over 2 years ago so it could be more now). Could the added difference be sales tax?
I would definitely call them and get it straightened out.

Re: Stupid question....
Okay, looking at my receipt from today it charges me seperately for the hem, sides, darts, and bustle ( I knew the bustle would be extra).
I'm confused, does the cap cover the alterations or not?
I'm thinking $250 alterations...$100 or so bustle...
and then maybe tax?

Re: Stupid question....
yes your being fleeced that's deceptive biz practice CAP means that is the final and highest cost associated with your alterations otherwise their would be no limit on charges
