Okay this may seem like a astuoid question but i'm going to ask anyway....
Do you go for food tasting before or after you book the location?
Please add any more information about food tasting also.

Re: Stupid Question
You go check out the hall and then ask them for a food testing.

Re: Stupid Question
depending on the place. most places let you taste before you sign, some only at special tasting parties, and some only after you sign and you are making your menu. my advice to you is to taste before you sign. thats the reason why you taste- if the foods not good, then dont book there.

Re: Stupid Question
we did both We went to th ebridal show, and then after we booked we went back again, because the food is so good. The second time we didnt stay for the show, because we already booked our vendors.

Re: Stupid Question
it depends on the location, some places hold their reputation so high, that the tasting only comes after you have booked, about a month prior the wedding.

Re: Stupid Question
We had our tasting about 6 weeks before the wedding when we were planning the menu. But I was already confident about the food from talking to other people. If you're not sure, you could request it. It probably depends on the place.

Re: Stupid Question
Yes, we went for tastings before our wedding. Many caterers offer tastings after you meet with the Banquet Manager or Special Events person. However, if the venue is a restaurant they don't always offer tastings. Our wedding reception venue was a restaurant and caterer second (orignially founded as a restaurant) which did not offer tastings. However, we went there for lunch (paid for by DH) with both mothers and that was our tasting. Ours tastings were 1 1/2 years prior to our wedding date. Immediately afterwards we booked them for our wedding date at Caffe on the Green in Bayside, Queens. Caffé on the Green
Most tastings from caterers are done during the business week on a work day to avoid having free dinners during the weekends. So, we had to take a day off from work to do this but it was worth it because we were able to see how good the food really is and what to expect our guests will be eating. We thought that a tasting would be just a piece of chicken, or a small piece of filt mignon but Swan Club and George Washington Manor actually gave us a full piece of the chicken and everything was from the wedding banquet menu. It's like an actual dinner except it's free and you're the judge with the food. We did tip the waiter(s). Oh, yeah should you really like the venue you see while venue shopping go for the tasting definitely! Also, most tastings requires an appointment on a weekday only as mentioned earlier.
Tastings are fun! Enjoy!

Re: Stupid Question
We also went before. I wouldn't book if the food wasn't good. John & I went with our parents & they made us everything on the menu almost! It was so delicious we all agreed, not one thing tasted bad!

Re: Stupid Question
My hall does the tasting about 1-2 mos before the wedding. They have a restaurant next to the hall with the same chef, so we sampled that before we booked.

Re: Stupid Question
Not a stupid question at all! We tasted after booking. My site doesn't normally do tastings at all, but I insisted. So they let me try a few items when they had another event going on & we sat in a back room. Then my officiant's church had a Women's Day event there - mom & I went & had everything they offered, which was good cuz we determined we wanted chicken w/cranberries stuffing instead of plain stuffing! I've never heard anything bad about them so I was only semi-worried & since that tasting everyone I've spoken to raves about the place so def. ask around, anybody EVERYBODY whether you taste test or not, imo! I think it really depends on how your site normally does these things, but if they want your business bad enough they'll work with you. Good luck!
