What is required of YOU when you block hotel rooms for guests? Do you have to guarantee that a specific # of rooms will be booked? Do you have to pay anything? Why do you have to give them a credit card # to book???
TIA

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
Depending on the hotel, you have to guarantee 70% of the rooms be blocked. For instance, if you block 10 rooms, you have to guarantee that 7 of them will be booked. Again, depending on the policy of the hotel, you may have to pay the difference if less than 7 aren't blocked. Sometimes if you dont meet the min, then the rates will go back to being regular rates and not the discounted blocked room rates.

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
We blocked at the Four Points Sheraton and NOTHING was required of us. We were allowed to block up to 10 rooms each night without any sort of guarantee or obligation. Also didn't need to put any credit card number down for it.
We only needed to put our credit card down because we booked the bridal suite for ourselves, so we had to hold that. But we don't get charged until check out. It's just in case we don't show without officially cancelling.

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
i called a bunch of hotels the other day and most said that you do the room block and what ever rooms are not booked by their cut off date will be released into hotel inventory, so you are not responsible for unused rooms.

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
I booked at Hilton Garden Inn in Westbury. I left a credit card number, but it is for incidentals. I did NOT have to guarantee a number of rooms booked.

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
All the hotels I spoke with didn't require anything if you blocked 10 rooms. All you had to do was sign the contract and mail it back. Whatever rooms weren't blocked 1 month prior to the wedding would just be released back into their inventory.
However, if you block more than 20 rooms they required 80% of the rooms be blocked and if they weren't you were responsible for the difference. I think with a 20 room block you also need to leave a deposit.

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
We didn't need anything. We're not responsible for rooms that don't get booked - a month before they get released to the general public.
It depends on the hotel's individual policy.

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
It depends on the hotel. Ours does not require ANYTHING - any rooms in the block taht are left unbooked 4 weeks before the wedding will be returned to the 'general pool'. That means that guests can still book, but they will also be available to the public. If a certain amount of people do book, we get a free room. It probably depends on the location and tendency for the hotel to book regarding how they work things. I know the Marriot in bklyn heights has crazy rules because it's in such high demand! Whereas mine in suffolk county is more lax because they don't typicallly sell out.

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
We blocked at Mariott in Islandia and didn't have to guarantee anything. We really needed a place where we didn't have to guarantee because I have a feeling either ALL of FH's family or NONE are going to attending and they are all OOT.

I am a Sales Manager at a hotel.....I do wedding blocks everyday. There sholdnt be any reason for them to require a credit card from you to block rooms for a wedding unless you are paying for all the rooms yourself. If they do request your cc, its because thats their rules but it shouldnt be needed.
Usually the hotel will block the amount of rooms you request and then give you a cut off date of when your guests have until to book at that group rate. After that date, any unused/unbooked roomsyour guests did not pick up will be released into their inventory for the public to pick up. If any guests of yours call to book after that cut off date, they will not be offered the group discounted rate.....only the best available rate.
Hope that helped!
Oh and forgot to add.....the reason they shouldnt request a CC from you is because all your guests will be calling on their own and guaranteeing with their own credit cards for payment

Re: Stupid Question about Blocking Hotel Rooms
It depends on the hotel. We did not have to guarantee anything. Another hotel that we looked into we had to guarantee a # of rooms and we did not book with them because we did not know if we could fill 11 rooms for the night. I would ask them.
