Stupid question... DOC?

I am in the process of planning everything, contacting vendors etc....

Is a DOC necessary???

What exactly do they do?

Thanks!

Omg I just FM'ed you back!! I have mixed feelings on this. I really wanted to hire one but am not for two reasons: 1. my MOH is my anal retentive sister so I know she will help and the bigger reason 2. My DJ (Phil from After Hours) know my RH and the staff and he said there really isn't too much of a need. On seperate occasions both he and Jerry Scotto (the owner of RH) said that DOC's just get in the way.

From what I have heard WM runs like a well oiled machine so I'm trusting it. Plus, I could put that money toward something I really want like a photobooth or uplighting!! :)

LOLOLOLOL

Ya see - I am pretty good with organizing things and stuff ! I know obviously that day I will be a crazed lunatic - but seriously, everything should be in order by that point!
My RH will help with stuff Im assuming???
I need to contact the vendor concierge at Russos to see what she thinks...

I just can't see spending money on someone who really has no purpose??? Its like a watered down wedding planner right???

LOL

Yeah, I agree with Futuremrsz, I really feel like they get in the way. Jericho Terrace offers it as well and I opted not to have it. between my DJ company (Unique Entertainment) & RH, I feel like I'm in the right hands.

Agreed. Not completely necessary but a load off your mind if you can afford it! We opted not to have a DOC and everything ran so amazingly smoothly.

not necessary at all since you are aving your wedding at a reception hall... a DOC is more for girls w no BMs or someone who is having their wedding with an off premise caterer (like a tent or a open venue) and you have to bring in all of you rentals.

That is what your bridal attendant and Matrie D are for!

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

i agree with what everyone says-- however-- i have my DOC for 10 hours -- she will leave after our first dance

What she is doing for us:

2 weeks before the wedding she becomes the main source of contact for all my vendors-- so that if any of them have questions i dont have 10 vendors calling me-- they will call her and she'll contact me once ask all the questions and get back to everyone. she also takes all my contracts-- she'll handle all tips the day of-- if theres a vendor issue she'll take care of it. I believe the maitre d at FT is amazing and thats why she'll leave after the first dance as FT will have everything in control.

Plus here is what she has listed on her website. she is beyond amazing-- and if its in your budget I say go for it. She does les than 10 hours also-- i chose 10 because of the amount of people we're having its just going to be mass confusion.

* Complimentary Initial Consultation
* Unlimited consultation via telephone and email
* Final detailing appointment during the month of the wedding
* Confirmation and coordination of all vendor details, contracts and scheduling the week before the wedding
* Wedding Day Timeline and Itinerary
* Distribution of final balance and gratuities to vendors on your behalf
* Ensure proper placement of place cards, photographs, menu cards, unity candle, programs, petals, guest book, and favors
* Site inspection and set-up confirmation of ceremony and reception locations
* Wedding Day “Kit of Essentials”
* We will be there by your side ready to troubleshoot any emergencies or unexpected occurrences!

HTH!!!!

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

I have one and couldn't imagine getting through a lot of things without her. I'm so organized to the point where I get disorganized...weird I know!! My DOC is there whenever I need her, helped me find my invites (with a discount), works with my RH so she knows the ins and outs, created my timeline, made great recommendations, and so many other things. We got her services from when we booked our RH for free because she's affiliated with them, but we did pay for her to be our actual DOC...I know she's gonna be a life saver. Other LIW brides have used her and loved her. It's really about personal preference, they're not a must have. But they can really be worth the money and more depending on your situation. I don't want to have to worry about anything the day of, and I don't want my family or bridal party having to fix problems etc. That's what she's there for and I hear she's great at it.

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

I never thought that I would have hired a DOC because I am very organized and on top of everything. I have a banquet manager and two bridal attendants, but I decided to get one because I don't want to have to worry about all of the little details that I know I will have in the church as well as the reception hall. Sure, there are people at the hall that are supposed to do that for you, but I feel better knowing that my DOC will put things exactly as I ask and I will not have to stress.. She also will do tons of other stuff such as handing final payments and tips, verifying contracts- all things that I would have no problem doing, but it just makes your big day that much easier (if you have a good DOC of course).

The question I asked myself was how are all of my little extras like petal cones, programs, etc. going to get set up and distributed without a DOC? My mother and bridal party really can't and I wouldn't want to put that responsibility on a guest. It just made sense to me, but if don't want to spend extra money, I'm sure you will be fine with the great people at your hall.

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

I didnt think I would need a DOC & about 3 months b4 we got married I felt SO overwhelmed with stuff to do & with things I felt might go wrong the day of. Hiring Gina from Bleu Diamond Events, was hands down one of the best decisions DH & I made for our wedding day. She was amazing the day of as well as months after when I had issues with one of my vendors from the night of our wedding.

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

id rather have a DOC who is outside the RH who can reallly put what I want for my day of and I have back up in case the MD and BA dont execute or listen to what I want. The halls dont want you to hire a DOC because they think that they will take tips away from their employees. Its really all preference. Id rather have a DOC to do things I dont want my family or BM to do.

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

Well I hired a DOC and she didn't do jack shizz for me...I hired her to deal with all the vendors and stuff day-of so that I didn't have to do it...well I was fielding questions from all vendors and on top of that many things were not set up the way I wanted them to be.

I still recommend getting one...it would have been a great help, I would have been able to just relax instead of hurrying around and worrying about things getting done.

I guess I'm a little more upset about this than I thought.

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

MY DOC was a complete necessity and was the most amazing chica EVER. I had 10 girls in my BP, I had a matrie'd and bridal attendant and I can honestly tell you, my day would not have been as great as it was with my coordinator. She did my programs for me, made sure they were handed out in the Church, handed out my bubbles, fixed any little hiccup that I didn't even know about, fixed my MOH's dress when her dancing got crazy and she snagged it, my DOC took my unity candle and aisle runner, etc from the Church that we just left without thinking about it after our ceremony was over. I could go on and on as to why a coordinator is a good way to go, but you are right, it is not a necessity, it's a luxury.

ETA: When Rosalie showed up at my house th emorning of, I gave her all my envelops and tips for every single person and she handled each and every one of them for me. It wasn't a thought in my mind AT ALL!!!! She did everything for me so I could just enjoy my day. She even ran drinks to the dance floor if she saw us get low and held my dress when I had to pee pee.

I wish I had her day to day!!!

Re: Stupid question... DOC?

my only wedding day regret is not hiring a DOC... i passed up on an amazing price... because i thought i could handle everything...

i didnt... there are things that i forgot that still bother me... and it wouldnt have forgotten them if i had a DOC because i know they would have been on top of it...
