Stupid Question.. what to wear to a wedding

So Ive never actually been to a wedding. Next month we have FHs cousins wedding at Leonards. Its on a Saturday night and the invitation says black tie optional. I have no fancy dresses whatsoever. And since ive never been to a wedding, I have no idea how I should dress. What kind of dresses should I be looking at?

I would definately go for a longer gown!

Me too since it's black tie.

For a Black Tie wedding you should wear a longer dress. Here are a few.

Where did you find these -- i love the last one but preferably in black!

On Lord and Taylor's website! Not sure if they have it in black. I hardly ever wear black so I don't even give it a second look!

A cocktail dress is fine, a fancy black dress of any length will be perfect!
I don't think that everyone wears long dresses to black tie affairs anymore, it just has to be a dressy dress. You can't go wrong with a black cocktail dress, and if its black tie optional, I bet there won't be too many long dresses. You don't have to go out and buy a bridesmaid-looking dress that you most likely will never wear again.
