Stupid STAR appl.? that nor I or MIL can answer..

We just closed on Friday.. All the utilities/taxes/maint. on the house are paid through Dec., the first payment not due until 1/1/04.. NOW< my question.. on my STAR application, it says I have to submit 2 utility bills, title and deed (got those) along with my appl. and like a copy of my license.. my lic and the bills to show proof of ownership.. HOW the heck am I supposed to provide those if I won't be receiving any bills in my name until Jan 1 and the cut-off date to submit the application is not until 1/1 (although they ask that they be submitted on or before 12/31/03)

I've call the 516-571-1500 about 23082032834 times and when I select to hear more info re: the Star or hit 0 it's busy..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

LIPA, Verizon, the water company, etc. can provide letters on their stationary stating that you are the homeowner as of such and such a date and STAR accepts this. We had to do it that way also.

For LIPA, I had to go down there and show my drivers license but the others just mailed the letter to me!

I actually just spoke to someone there (not very nice mind you) and she said send the application and copy of the notorized (sp) deed, and a copy of your home owners ins.

She said send that in and let them ask for more proof but you want to get the application in.

Marcella we are going to have the same problem.

We just closed on Friday too - good luck to all the new homeowners - and will have to do this also. Kind of a pain in the butt.

Also, I thought you had to live there for a year before you were able to apply, but I guess not!

Thank you for asking this question!!! I am in the same boat (new homeowner) and was wondering the same thing! Plus they don't answer the phone in that office. Plus with the new assessment I want my Star!

I did like JENHOS was told when I closed last December. We closed on the 16th and applied on time. It make a $1,222 difference on our taxes. It is so worth it to apply even under tight time constraints!

The STAR gives you a 'discount' on your taxes.

Just wanted to let you know that you may want to go the 'voter registration' route for applying to the Star program. I called Nassau County Board of Elections and got the application 2 days later.

Then she told me to fill it out and include a note that says please rush I need the voter registration card as proof of address for the STAR program. All in all I got my voter registration card in a week! So now I can mail out my STAR application. The whole process was really fast! Just wanted to let you know.

Try both. Make sure you speak to someone and ask them to rush the application b/c you need it for the Star application deadline.

Jen ok you got me there. My hubby filled out the application and didn't ask me for any paperwork so I'm not sure. When he calls me I will ask him and get back to you.
