So I need an opinion as to the cost of doing these type of centerpieces. FH and I thought that these type of centerpieces would be cheaper (less labor, less flowers). We went to our first florist appointment and came up with this set-up: 2 tall vases(20in. and 14in. tall) each with a long stem of cymbidium orchids submerged in water, with 4 small square vases surrounding the base, each with one peony blossom. The quote for this was $120. Is this a good quote?
For some reason I thought it would be less since in terms of flowers we're really not using a whole lot (granted I know orchids/peonies are more expensive flowers) and there doesn't seem to be much labor involved with doing this type of centerpiece, but does this sound right? Or does the number of vases you use increase the price as well?
Has anyone ever purchases the vases themselves and gave them to the florist to use as a way to savee $$$?
Appreciate everyone's input, TIA!

Re: Submerged Orchid centerpieces
I ma providing the base for my cp's and they will put the flowers on top of my bowl. My cp'sa re costing $45 each. You will save money if you give them the vases to use.

Hmm ok so it sounds like florists are usually ok with the idea of you supplying your own vases then right? I wasn't sure if that was like an 'accepted' thing to do. I'll make sure I ask then since I'd love to save $$$ on the flowers.
BTW, where did you ladies go to buy your own vases? Any suggestions? TIA!

We bought our vases at ACMoore. Or you could try Michaels.

Ikea is also a great place to check for any glassware.

Something like this right? I have been trying to figure out how to do this to save money as well!
Yup! We are planning two have the two cylindrical vases, one filled with a stem of green cymbidium orchids and the other with pink (vanda) orchids (to go with our pink and green theme ).
I thought doing these type of CP's would be a lot more cost effective... but apparently not?

You should definitely find out if buying your own and having them shipped to the florist, is cheaper for you than buying directly from the florist. It won't hurt to do your research. I am doing high and low centerpieces. My low is a rectangle aqua vase with about 10 orchids in there. There will be clear jelly (that is what the florist calls it) and then I'm going to get the Flora Lights to light it up. My low's are $60 a piece.

SoonToBeMrsBrady- wow your low CP sounds beautiful, may I ask what are your high CP's?
Also what are Flora Lights? FH was mentioning how he wanted to light up the vase or something, but I didn't know what he was talking about... Thanks!!

My high's are tall vases with Luxspar ( I think I'm spelling it wrong, but is how the florist pronounced it..hehehehehe). The Luxspar is tall green stems with white flowers and then I'm having branches added as well.....and the Flora Lyte's.
I've been looking into orchids as well and someone told me they have them really cheap in chinatown - canal street. I've been meaning to check it out - does anyone know about this?
