SUCH A SILLY QUESTION ... Please Help ...

I want to call the church we want to get married in but honestly I have no idea what to say. I dont know why but I am very nervous about it. What questions are they likely to ask me? Its a catholic church - I made my communion but not my confirmation - is that going to be a problem? DO they ask for proof?

They don'y really care about confirmation but they will definitly want to know if your a member of the church and if you have been baptised. You will need to get a copy of your baptizmal certificate before the wedding. Don't be nervous but know that they will ask alot of questions.

Yeah, they only need a copy of both of yours baptismal certificate. The only questions I got ask were like, have you ever been married before?, are you entering into this marriage freely?, etc. Nothing hard and nothing that should make you nervous. Good luck!

I was freaking out before I called the church. And I really didn't have a reason b/c I had made my baptism, communion and confirmation in the same chruch. FH made all of his sacraments too. I think, for me, I was just freaking out that for some unknown reason they would say that we weren't 'catholic enough' or something and refuse to marry us. It's so irrational but that was how I was thinking. Luckily, everything went really smooth and the priest we met with put all my fears at ease!

You have nothing to worry about!! I actually really enjoyed meeting with the priest to discuss our wedding plans! First you need to call the rectory... just say that you plan to get married in the next year or so. You are interested in knowing what the next step is. In my case, the secretary asked me if i wanted the full mass or just ceremony only and did i know what priest i wanted. (I chose!) she passed on my information to the priest. after some phone tag we arranged to meet....

at the meeting, he went over our personal information... address, birthdate, parents names, where and when we received our sacraments, etc. etc. the priest will then separate you from your FH and ask other questions.. it's nothing too scary...they just want to make sure you're both entering into marriage by your own will, etc. etc.

After that, we sat and talked about the church's specfics regarding weddings: music, parking, etc. etc. He also explained Pre Cana and our options there.... and we offocially set the time and date for our wedding Mass.

You have nothing to worry about!

I was nervous too, but it is actually much easier than you think. I would just ask about the confirmation thing...see if they require it. They basically just ask you how long you have known each other, if you're going into this without any problems, if your parents approve..silly things. They give you two forms to fill out, an instruction/registration booklet for Pre-Cana and information about obtaining your marriage license.

One thing I would suggest if you have booked your hall....don't tell them! Some priest get very, very upset if you first book the hall.

You'll be fine!!

I felt sooo NERVOUS and had no clue what to say ... Pretty much you need to show proof of baptism - they are going to ask questions like have either one of you been married in a catholic church before...
Every church is different on how they run there wedding ceremony and precana - if you have any questions ask them - I know before we could book our church we had to have a meeting with the priest (like an interview so to speak) but we were there for 5 min and he booked our wedding.

After the meeting FH and I were not so nervous!

Good Luck - don't think about it too much - just calllllll!

I was nervous too, but don't worry its not that big of a deal the first time around. My priest basically asked me if I was sure I wanted to get married, and he reminded me what a big step it was. He also asked me some questions about FH. I would def. ask about the confirmation thing, cause I know my church requires it. In case they do, don't worry about it you can sign up for some classes and get confirmed before the wedding. Oh I would also ask what is their fee and what is included.

If it is your church they should have all the records. FH belongs to another church and they asked for copies of baptism, communion, and confirmation records. They may make u receive your confirmation to get married there. Then they will ask your date and what time. They will more than likely wanna set up a meeting with you to talk

Stupid question.....Do you have to get married in the church you received your sacraments, or can you choose any church you particularly like?

no, you can pick another church, but you just need to give them proof.

Many churches just need a letter from your current parish, but there are some that won't marry you unless you're a parishioner - particularly the older churches that are more old fashioned.
