Such Hurt Feelings. Can't believe someone said this!!

I was in a week long seminar for work and a woman who has not seen me in a few months walks up to me (I thought she liked me). She asked me when I was due. Laughing I said, September 9th but told her (joking) that I had been telling people I was due in July because I have gotten really big.
She opens her eyes incredulously and asks, 'How many kids are you having?' and then follows it up with, 'I mean, are you sure you are only having one?' I went back to my hotel room and seriously spent close to one hour crying. I am soooo sensitive about my weight normally and this pregnancy has made me feel so self conscious. I feel like a monster! Please tell me that this is normal and the woman is just psycho. I could see a clueless guy saying something like this, but a woman.

I'm so sorry. People can be such jerks. And to have to deal with this when you aren't at home.

When I was pregnant, the harshest comments came from other women. Some had experienced pregnancy, some had not. I actually found that men kept their comments to themselves. I found there were a few people that I worked with that I needed to ignore what they said - it was just too upsetting.

I hope you realize she's a total jerk and that you can talk to DH and he can make you feel better.

I agree with the last post. Women can be so insensitive. I too have experienced my share of inappropriate comments. I woudl come home from work everyday with a new one to tell my husband. I too am very self conscience about my weight..I wasn't too thin to begin with and now.....ugghhhh! Just ignore them and hang in there! People are just idiots and I would love a little role reversal here to see if they would like it if it were said to them. But believe in karma....what goes around comes around and that woman will definitely get hers......

Don't worry, I'm sure you look great! I had numerous complete strangers come up to me and ask when my twins were due, seriously. I always laughed at them and sometimes had to say a couple of times I was only having one.

Numerous people asked me all the time if I was having twins....I was showing and completly in Maternity clothes by 10 weeks.
I did get big rather quickly....but that was no one's business but my own. People really should learn that if you don't have something nice to say...don't say it.

What is with some people??? I'm so sorry she said that to you! I'm starting to get convinced that *some* women just say things like that because they experienced similar nasty comments when THEY were PG! But we need to stop that cycle!!

And, in some cases, it is women who have never been PG and are completely insensitive to it.

You poor thing - that is just plain RUDE. There was a woman in my office who carried very big for both her pregnancies (and had very big babies) but our boss had the nerve to ask her if she was 'carrying a keg in there'!!! I could not belive those words came out of his mouth. Soooo insensitive and even worse when other women say it. I think they are just trying to make themselves fel better. Don't listen to anyone!

Yikes! I've said that to people--but probably never to someone that I didn't know really, really well.

I'll have to be more careful in the future.

I'm sorry that people are so stupid and inconsiderate.

You know what's a fun thing to do???

When they ask when you're due...

Tell them you're not pregnant....

and watch them squirm!!!

People can be real jerks at times listen it is totally normal can I tell you that when I was in my third month I already had popped and had to wear maternity clothes people couldn't believe I was only three months and as time went on the bigger I got. People would ask me the same thing am I sure there is only one baby in there you look like your having twins. I would turn to them and say yes I am sure its only one and yes I may look big and all but at least I know my baby is growing and going to be a healthy weight. Others would say how are you gonna loose the weight you have put on I would say as long as my child is healthy I don't care about the weight if it comes off it comes off if not then it doesn't and I tell you 7 months after having my daughter I am back to pre pregnancy weight.
