Since all these towns have such different things to offer---- it might be easier to see what you are looking for in a town and then we might be able to offer some good towns to look at. ie: do you want north or south shore? close to a highway or your job? good schools? safe? good shopping? etc etc.
agreed. We are looking for easy access to trains..Commute no more than an 1hr and 1/2... since I know most of these places are a little far out. we both work in the city ( FH is in Queens, I am in Manhattan). good schools, good shopping.

I live in Amity Harbor which is south of Amityville. I like it. We are border line Nassau, I'm right next to Massapequa.
In Amity Harbor....is that Amityville school district? I know the harbor is really nice...i'm just not a big fan of amityville school district.

You should get on the train line schedules and look at the towns along the schedule and very close to there. On the south shore you cant really go past Babylon much. Definitely not farther than Islip. North Shore...Ronkonkoma would be the farthest out. Otherwise you are talking limited train schedules and over an hour and a half. Deer park is a nice area.

Yes, I believe it's still Amityville school distric and I don't think their the greatest, unless you place them in the private school...which is supposed to be really goood. 'St. Martin of Tours school'.

forget Mt Sinai then. You'd have to take either the Pt jeff or Ronkonkoma trains and they're long. and you'd only be sorta near Pt Jeff and its an endless ride.

Re: Suffolk County
I currently live in Middle Island (actually moving out tomorrow!) which is a town over from Coram and to be honest I wouldn't recommend it. Yes there are some 'nice' places but I definitely wouldnt want to make this area more than a place to start out. (Don't know what your plan are though)
We found that there wasnt a whole lot to do and feel very far from everything. I am not trying to offend anyone and I am sure anyone who lives here has a lovely home but it just wasn't for us. I work in Bohemia, which is right near Ronkonkoma and would recommend Ronk over Coram any day.

Babylon is nice, check out West Babylon too. Lindenhurst is a good area, we moved here last year and I love it.

We live in Holbrook - I love the town! Really nice people, close to sayville which is a great town. And we are in Sachem school district which is a great district! Def look into the school districts- more than a few of the towns you listed are known for having less than stellar districts- not high percentage of students graduating...

Re: Suffolk County
I grew up near Coram and FH is from Coram. We live Near Mt. Sinai and its really nice. We have a few friends who live in North Isle and Its nice too. It's gotten a lot better over the years, it was kinda sketchy there for a while. They changed the qualifications to be able to rent there and its 1000x better. FM me if you have any other question about this area :)

I can only speak for Commack because I used to live there. It's a nice town - a lot to do and very close to a lot of things and other towns, e.g. Deer Park Outlets, Huntington Village, Smithtown/Lake Grove mall, shopping, etc.
I live in commack and love it!! Great shopping and tons of restaurants. My favorite by far
Used to live by central islip and I am not a fan at all. It's a run-down town IMO
There are really nice parts of bayshore that are affordable. Id look south of sunrise hgwy though.
YAY for all the commack people! I just moved from there (to live with FH). I do miss it sometimes though but i get to go back when i visit my parents. Anyone go to HS there?
Meee! We used to be country woods neighbors lol

Re: Suffolk County
coram is kinda scary, there are nice parts of amityville but the school district is not good, and central islip is the worst out of them.... bay shore is kinda eh not good but not completely horrible
out of the list I would say Babylon, Commack, and Mt. Sinai are the only decent ones with good school districts
