SUFFOLK COUNTY GIRLS please help!!!! (or if you know about suffolk county towns)
so FH and i are pretty much about to close on a house in bayshore.... school district is west islip, but the house is technically in bayshore.
so of course my mother is flipping out!!! first off, she never wanted us to be looking for a house until after the wedding so she is already pissed about that. so i was dreading telling her that we are close to closing on this house (she didnt even know that we went to look at the house) and she FLIPPED OUT over the fact that it is in bayshore - even though i tried to tell her that it is like borderline bayshore with west islip school district she is seriously not making this at all enjoyable
so my question is - what really is the deal with bayshore? is it really a horrible area?! please give me honest answers!!
TIA

I am not from there, but i know the area and like any area, there are definitely shady areas...but if you head towards the area on the way to the fire island ferry...it can be beautiful

It can be a bit shady. I kinda understand your mother's concern.

There are some nice areas in bayshore, but over all its eh... Depends on where you are in bayshore. Near town there are a lot of eyesore houses that are almost falling apart.

There are some not-so-great areas, but that is true of most towns. West Islip school district is a pretty good one though, I think!

I'm not from Bayshore either but i think it depends on where you are. By the ferry is really nice. If you guys are over there you have to go to Milk and Cookies and Smokin AL's. Both places are on Main St.

It's like any area... good and bad. The downtown Main Street area is really developing and there are lots of cute shops and cafes popping up... the fact that you're in the WI school district is GREAT!
Congratulations!

I have friends there and havent heard anything BAD about it - I live in selden and selden is quiet - but it has its problems -
Same with bayshore - I work with someone who lives by smokin als and she loves it - and her kids love it - and doesnt have bad things to say
All towns have their issues - its what u make of it/
Tell mom thanks for being protective but RELAX.

depends where - as long as your not in that school district i wouldn't be so concerned. The downtown area (main street) is really a cool place to shop/eat.

LOL!!! That's how I used to get to my house!!! I don't know that street name, but I know the area and it is MORE THAN FINE!! I grew up there and it IS a NICE area! The not so great parts of Bayshore would be like the number streets (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) They are closer to the Bayshore Mall though. Youre not anywhere near there! Congrats on the house because that is actually an Awesome area to grow up in! The beach is right there - 5 minutes over the bridge and that's it! If you have any questions at all - just mail me!!!

The area between bayshore and west islip is not that bad, as with any area you will have good and bad. A fw questions, is it south of montauk highway? what are the roads that it is east and west of. My godparents used to live there, on the water, so I spent alot of time there. The West Islip school district is good. The only thing that if your house is more towards the north side, towards sunrose highway and i think a bit east and west of brentwood rd/5th ave (cant remember which) then I might be a litle concerned. But remember, you have to be happy...and is this going to be the place that you are going to live forever? Or is this more of a starter home that eventually you can turn it into a rental for income to help pay for your next home. Something to think about. Good luck, and if you have any questions, please FM me.

Re: SUFFOLK COUNTY GIRLS please help!!!! (or if you know about suffolk county towns)
FYI- There are a couple of areas in BS that are not so great ( again, like any other town) But Bay Shore is a beautiful town with a great S.D., one of the best on LI. Personally, I prefer a S.D. w/ some diversity. Do your own homework, half the girls that have responded to this post I'm sure have never stepped foot in Bay Shore.
