SUFFOLK COUNTY GIRLS please help!!!! (or if you know about suffolk county towns)

Original post by TommysWife08

so FH and i are pretty much about to close on a house in bayshore.... school district is west islip, but the house is technically in bayshore.

so of course my mother is flipping out!!! first off, she never wanted us to be looking for a house until after the wedding so she is already pissed about that. so i was dreading telling her that we are close to closing on this house (she didnt even know that we went to look at the house) and she FLIPPED OUT over the fact that it is in bayshore - even though i tried to tell her that it is like borderline bayshore with west islip school district she is seriously not making this at all enjoyable

so my question is - what really is the deal with bayshore? is it really a horrible area?! please give me honest answers!!

TIA

I work in Bay Shore. It has its ups and downs like any other district. FH's second job is in a 'rich' district and he sees more things go on there then I ever do.

I love Bay Shore. Great teachers and students. I call it the real world. You have white, black, spanish....you have rich and poor. Kids truly learn what real life is.

As long as you are a good parent and raise your kid right, no matter where you live they will be fine. I know sooo many kids from the nice district I grew up in who are druggies and low lives....

Honestly I probably know the area you're looking in if it's Bay Shore but WI schools.

Then that would be the good part of Bay Shore.. There are sketchy areas, but they're like over Fifth Ave near the high school kinda.

It's like a lot of towns...has a nice area and has an iffy area. Brightwaters is part of Bayshore and that's where a lot of money is and it's beautiful. FH has observed there for teaching and he really liked the diversity in the schools. It's really not a bad area so don't worry.

Thats a good area, my aunt and uncle presently live just east of the robert moses but south of montauk. But my FBIL's family lives in the area you are looking, and he said its fine. Quiet, not much trouble at all, and you have the WI school district so thats a bonus, even though Bayshore is not a bad school district at all, I used to sub there as a teacher.
But as someone mentioned, as long as you are a good parent, are involved in your childs life, things will work out fine. Either way, i think you are in good hands, and the other thing you can do to put your mind at ease, is to go and talk to some of the neighbors. Its what I did before buying my house, I would also stop by at different times of the day or the year. I am not sure you can do that all that often if you are about to close, but definately try and talk with the neighbors, they are usually pretty good about it, the ones by me were.
Good luck and if you have more questions, feel free to FM me.

ITA with driving by at different times of the day. I almost bought a house 1 block from a firehouse. luckily I was driving by when fire house siren thing was going off. it was soooo loud. there is no way I would be able to deal with that everyday at 12 and whenever there is a fire.

I wish I had tried talking to the neighbors too. I would have known not to expect them to be nice to me. apparently they were all very good friends with the people who lived in the house before me. they kind of resent me for buying the house. like it is my fault the wife couldn't afford the house after her divorce???

We closed on a house in Bay Shore in Aug, honestly we love it. We go out in Bay Shore town and Babylon town is really close too, there's lots of good restaurants and Bay Shore town is really coming around. Plus what I love is that we're SOOO close to the beach it's like 10mins. I love the area. As far as the schools go, I used to live in West Islip school system is great, you have nothing to worry about! ps. I know what you're going through when we bought our house FH's fam thought we were living in the ghetto, until they saw our house house and the area and were like Wow! People just don't know what they're talking about sometimes, and just repeat things that they've heard that they don't even know that's true. Good luck!!

There are some not-so-great areas, but that is true of most towns. West Islip school district is a pretty good one though, I think!

yeah west islip is a great school district but bayshore like the other girls said has some nice parts and some well ehh parts

Exactly...I live in West Islip and their school district is great....but bayshore isn't the best of places but since its bordering west islip it depends on the neighborhood that you live in. Since you are in West Islip school district i wouldnt worry about it at all. I would love to be able to afford so that I could purchase in West Islip or borderline and get into their school district. We only rent now but FH grew up in west islip.
