Suffolk GTG- Beginners salsa lesson anyone?

Hi all,

At yesterday's Suffolk GTG, I mentioned the idea of all of us getting together with our guys & taking a Latin dance lesson. Some of the girls said their FH would never do it...so why don't we leave the guys AT HOME, and make it a GIRLS NIGHT OUT?!

Melissa is taking lessons at Bet You Can Dance in Commack & loves it. I checked out their web site & group classes are only $15.00pp, for those of us on a budget! We can always go out for drinks/coffee/etc... after the lesson as well.

If you are like me, two left feet, but want to meet some new people & have fun, let me know! The classes are offered every Wednesday night:

Salsa for beginners

Wed. Jun 17, 2009 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Wed. Jun 24, 2009 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm

July dates:
Wed. July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29th 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Heather,
I had a nice time yesterday afternoon. It was a pleasure to meet you and the rest of the girls.
I would love to do the salsa girls night out! The timing is good for me with the exception of THIS week. We actually have our one on one class scheduled for 7p.m this Wednesday.Other than that...lets salsa!

I got to look at my schedule book when I get up. But I think that might work. Especially if we do it without the guys. FH is usually in CT for work that day anyhow.

I went to their first ever swing dance lesson there before the grand opening of the studio and then I never went back but that was just because they didn't have enough people to make it worth going, if they're filling classes now, I'd consider it :)

Here is a question... can we actually take the lessons without guys to dance with? Aren't partners important?

Re: Suffolk GTG- Beginners salsa lesson anyone?

It's always nice to have partners but it isn't totally necessary, so if your guy is willing I'd drag him but if not you'll probably end up dancing with the teacher or if the teacher has assistants and such. Depends on the format of the class but the one I went to at that studio was taught by the owner and there were six girls without partners so he kept taking turns dancing with us. He kept saying that after the grand opening he would be hiring assistants so that it would be him and two others to rotate but you always get more out of it if you have your own partner.

EDA: Doesn't mean you can't have a great time without one though!

I would love love love to do this! FH might actually be down for it, because we need to learn how to dance, and fast. And the price is definitely right for him LOL. The start time might be a little crunchy for him with work, but we can make arrangements if need be. Do you need to sign up in advance or can you just show up and pay as you go?

Hi Melissa,

It was an absolute pleasure chatting it up with you! You definitely have positive energy!

I wish I could sleep until 6:30 am on weekends, but my lovely little dog thinks we are on the weekday schedule & comes knocking at the door! UGH!!!!!

Re: Suffolk GTG- Beginners salsa lesson anyone?

Hi all,

Hope your Monday was painless

I'm so excited there are a few people interested, the more the merrier! I called the studio a few minutes ago to try & get some answers to your questions. The owner said we don't need a partner, there should be plenty of people to do the male role. If there's not enough, they will rotate.

Of course with varying schedules it may be difficult to get a date that is good for everyone, but I will certainly try! If you are interested, FM me your 1st & 2nd date preference. I know for myself, this week is a little short notice. Any other week works for me!
