Suggest a book for our bookclub?

Suggest a book for our bookclub?

We've all read the popular books of the moment (DaVinci, LovelyBones, Notebook)
we're looking for something that is not beach reading, but something with substance. Possibly a mystery... something we can discuss.

Any ideas? Thanks guys!

I just started 'Midnight in Garden of Good and Evil', seems really good and an actual read, not fluff.

I just finished 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' by Mark Haddon. The story is told from the perspective of an autistic boy who is investigating the murder of his neighbor's dog.

I could not put this book down! The writing is really engaging and funny. The murder mystery plot breaks down about halfway through, though, and becomes more a story about overcoming your fears and inner obstacles.

I got the book because it won a Whitbread award for best novel of the year, but it turns out it is also part of the Today Show's book club.

Thanks TwoBugs that book sure does sound intersting. I'll throw it out there!

And thank you gerty-- but I think the girls are looking for something 'non-classic'

The curious incident was an amazing book. I work with autistic children and this guy nailed it on the head... really quick to read too!

I just finished a great book called 'Atonement' by Ian McEwan. I think it would be a great bookclub book. Extremely well written and intriguing.

I was just going to suggest that!! Really great book (and for fun you could go see the musical on Broadway after, although the show and the nook are almost NOTHING alike.)

Lots of discussion on the topic of good and evil and they even have book club questions in the back.

Not mysteries but if it's a women's book club, Brick Lane and Secret Life of Bees are both AMAZING books.

I'm reading Paradise Alley by Kevin Baker- it's fantastic- it's all about the Civil War Draft riots in NYC (if you liked the movie Gangs of NY then you'll love it!)
