Suggestions for the hate-to flyers....
I'm a flight attendant for Southwest and have worked the Las Vegas nonstop out of Islip many times. It is a LOOOOONG mofo flight.
Bring FOOD - we don't serve anything other than some cookies/crackers, so you might want to stock up on some 'real' food.
Bring WATER - we serve drinks on the plane, but being airborne for that many hours dehydrates you more than you know. I always bring a big 'ole bottle of water when I fly as a passenger.
Bring a DVD player (or laptop) to watch movies. I like to have fun, but I'm not that entertaining. The only thing we ask of you is that you use headphones to watch. You may love 'Napolean Dynamite' but the elderly couple 3 rows away don't want to hear your movie. You'd be surprised at how easily sound travels in that metal tube.
DON'T get drunk. Yes, a glass or two of wine is relaxing (and fine to have), but for every drink you have at altitude is the equivilant of having 2 drinks on the ground. So, if you have 3 drinks in a 1 hour time period, you will feel as though you've had 6. Alcohol is also VERY drying as well and will contribute to dehydration (another reason to have that big bottle of water).
The back of the plane is more bumpy. The tail section of ALL aircraft have more 'give' than the front, so in turbulance the back of the plane will move more (I enjoy it - puts me to sleep).
Bring earplugs especially if you want to sit up front. The front of the plane is usually more noisy (although, flights TO Vegas are generally more noisy than flights BACK from Vages)because most of the pre-boards sit there. Remember, families with children under 5 are allowed to pre-board - so screaming children are usually up front.
You cannot stand in the very front of the airplane. Without fail on these long flights, I get people that are PISSED because I won't let them stand in the front galley to wait for the restroom (or stretch/hang out, etc). Please try to remember - the area around the cockpit MUST be kept clear. Believe me, I KNOW that you are not going to try to take control of the airplane and you just want to stretch your legs - but terrorists are out there, watching what we do. If they see that we allow mothers with small kids to stand up there, guess who they'll start using to create diversions for the flight crew (women and small children).
Have a great trip!
Any questions, feel free to FM me.
