Suggestions for weddings around holidays

Hello Ladies,

I am wondering what brides whom are getting married around holidays are doing?
I get married the day before Thanksgiving. We are going to have some out of town guest and family that has not seen each other in years….my immediate families attitude is basically no way in hell will I be able to eat a Thanksgiving meal the next day after all the food at the wedding which is super ? But, on the other hand my FH wants to have a Thanksgiving get together because all his family will be with each other and has not been together like this in about 10 yrs. With this being said his mom is like well cater it or go someplace…..and well that is about a couple of thousand dollars and to go eat some place is about $60.00 a person I have been looking up prices. Originally we wanted to rent a house and have everyone stay there but it is getting expensive as we price it out. My FH parents do not have any money to offer and when we went to her to discuss it she just blew it off listened to us talk and stared at us ? My brother is like why are you worrying about everyone else and my mother is so nice to say I will cook a turkey for the next day when we leave the wedding, which ends at midnight. I feel bad because it is the holiday but I do not want to spend the day after my wedding cooking thanksgiving dinner. Any suggestions?

Here's my suggestion... Find out what family members are actually going to participate, maybe not everyone would want to do it. A friend of mine did a brunch the next day but FH and I opted against it and went sightseeing instead. Once you get a grasp on how many people and who it'll e easier to determine who's house they will fit in. As far as food, you said they haven't seen each other in what 10 years? Perfect! Out of towners can bring a dessert, and people who love here can bring a dish/side, all your mom has to do is the turkey and those things basically cook themselves.

Good luck! I think what you and FH are planning is a sweet idea :)

I think it is a nice idea-and I love the idea of a pot luck. Although you want to host, maybe you can ask someone else to cook the turkey etc so you do not have to worry about it during your wedding/right after.

We are getting married the day after thanksgiving - I havent given much thought as to what we are going to do, but im sure it will be small that thanksgiving

We would have everyone at my house and I do not mind at all but we revert to his mom for suggestions and she looks at us like we are crazy and one reason I think he is looking guidance is because she does the thanksgiving holiday every year for herself and her parents. We will be financially responsible for his parents and grandparents getting here and staying here the time of the wedding. Renting a house is about half the cost of the wedding. We are paying for the wedding ourselves. Mostly everyone lives in other stats or Brooklyn and Queens - the locals if they go home will not be making it back. I guess I am frustrated because we hoped she could help us and shed some light on what to do for her family.
