I'm helping a friends sister plan her sister's (my friend) bridal party. She came to me and ask what the bridal party is responsible for, money wise? I know that normally the Brides family usually pays for the bridal shower but with the economy the way it is, what mother can afford that! So my question is what do you ladies think is fair to ask the bridesmaids to do or pay for without being to pushy or crossing a line? TIA
FYI: The party will be held in July in the Bride's fathers backyard. The father has the tables and chairs.
Any information will help.....

I have been in quite a few bridal parties and only had to pay for the shower for one of them. All of the rest, the mother of the bride paid.

ITA. Tradiontally the brides parents pay for the wedding. The grooms parents pay for the rehersal dinner. And the BP pays for the bachlor, bachlorette, and bridal shower.(Grooms man for groom and bridesmaids fr bride)

I've helped pay for several showers as a BM. Its a little better if there are a lot of BMs, easier with the split. However, some mothers make it their mission in life to take over and throw everything. In those cases, the BMs usually buy a very big item off of the registry...like the bedding, the set of luggage, airline tickets for honeymoon, the china settings, a piece of furniture, etc. Some big ticket item. If BMs pay for the party, the party itself is part of the gift, but usually they give a big gift in addition to it.

me too. I had to pay for one and it suc*ked! I spent over $3,000 for that wedding in total.
I think you can *expect* for the bridal party to pay for the bachelorette party, their dresses, hair/makeup/shoes, and a nice gift. Asking anything more I think isn't right, unless they volunteer. But I think traditionally your parents pay for the shower.
I know that because of my experience, I would never ask my bridesmaids to pay for the shower. I know they want to be involved - so they may get some decorations, or make the wishing well - but not actually paying for a bunch of my family and friends to eat.

I actually dont think brides parents should be throwing the shower its supposed to be the MOH and the BM's in my opinion.. I was reading something online about this that said Brides parents shouldnt pay bec its like they are asking for gifts. as for mine my MOH and my FMIL are splitting the bill.

I think that the mother and MOH should really pay for the majority of the shower. i dont think that your brides maides usually except thinking that they are obligated to pay for more then there own dress and stuff
