I know exactly what you are talking about. Those noisy big blind bugs...
Every 13 years (or something) they REALLY come out of the ground in swarms. The last time was a long time ago.
I really dont think there is anything 'to do' about it though.

Re: summer for sacada's?
I remember the last time it was supposed to happen, I didn't notice anything more than usual.

Re: summer for sacada's?
My FH said that this is the summer for them. What to do about them, I don't know... but they are supposed to be here this summer. I'm not sure if it's here or in the Mid-West though...
Don't they come out every year. The noise reminds me of summer, so I've always enjoyed it. Especially at night. Am I weird?

You'll definitely notice more noise than usual. I don't think you can do anything about it though! Play the music louder!

I remember them YEARS ago - some are every 13 others are every 17 years - anyway I remember that they were EVERYWHERE not the simple few we see every few years - many people had to put foil on the trees to keep them from eating them or something like that - anyway I just remember them being all over the place!

Someone was just telling me about this- I think she said they're like in the ground right now or something & once the summer comes they're going to be ALL OVER the place!!!!! Well, at least they don't really bother us (ie: sting, bite, etc...)

Re: summer for sacada's?
Huh?????? We get these EVERY summer. They are harmless, don't bite... except for the annoying noise that is particularly strong in the morning...
Well they are around every summer just sometimes it is like an infestation.
These bugs dont bite or sting but one hurt my dad's back...
he saw one coming and ducked the wrong way and has had to go to a chiropractor ever since. I have hated those things ever since!

Re: summer for sacada's?
Once, I was driving in my car with the windows down and a cicada flew in and landed on my passenger seat and was buzzing... OH MAN....I don't even remember driving to the nearest gas station. That was THE WORST!!

Re: summer for sacada's?
Neesiepie, your story made me laugh. I can totally relate, last summer I was driving down Rt. 110 with a car full of friends, we had the windows open, it was late and the two girls in the backseat had fallen asleep. Anyway, I look over and see a big green worm wiggling on the inside of my car door and so I sped into the parking area of a gas station, threw the car in park and ran out. I seriously think I went from like 50mph to stopped in like two seconds. Nobody else in the car knew what the hell was going on but I freaked everyone out so bad that they all ran out of the car screaming too. I think I laughed for like an hour straight after that.
ETA: My best friend (V&S03) once drove straight into a huge rock and gave herself a flat tire because a bug flew into her car! Of course she played it off like she hit a big pothole! LOL. Hilarious!

I am just a little worried because my wedding ceremony is outside at Crest Hollow...in thier garden. It would just be annoying to hear those things during my vows.
