Sunday and holiday weddings

Sunday and holiday weddings

I really want to get married on July 4th. Not only is it a holiday but its on a Sunday which we didn't want originally. I've been invited to weddings where people have weddings on holidays or Sundays and it can be annoying to be honest. You know people are doing it for the discount and as a bride I completely understand that but its still annoying to get up the next day and go to work... Or sometimes people leave early with their kids, etc and I want people to really enjoy themselves not be thinking what they need to get done the next day.

I don't want to annoy my guests but I really want july 4th because it was my grandparents anniversary and they were two of the most loving people i have ever met. If I could just be a little like my grandma and get an ounce of the love they felt for each other for my marriage... I think this would be a great tribute for them and really be special. Any thoughts would be great.......

To me the Sunday thing is not as much of an inconvenience as the holiday thing. A lot of people like to go away on holiday weekends. I personally wouldn't do it, but if it holds that much meaning to you, go for it.

Agreed

What about the Saturday July 3rd. If you have a late start time, you could still end up celebrating on the 4th after midnight and this way you have the spcialness of celebrating on your Grandparent's Anniversary too....

It tottaly depends to me....I have a wedding coming up on a holiday weekend and I am dreading it - the bride also always talks my ear off about high society and classy she is blah blah blah. Now if she did not do that I do not think i would care.

I honestly think if it is importaint to you then you should def. do it. I have my FHs grandmas stone in my Ering and it is really just amazing and if you can have that feeling in another way I think it is worth it.

I think you should go for it!!! I'm sure that your family will be excited for you and totally supportive, since you want the date for good reasons. I am having a Sunday wedding on a holiday weekend and all that matters are that the people who really love me be their.

Most offices will be closed on Monday, July 5th (just like this year, many were closed on Friday, July 3rd) so that part won't be a very big inconveniece.
If I was a guest I would have no problem. I could care less about the holiday and understand that this was what the bride and groom wanted and it is about them and NOT me. There will be many other July 4ths. BUT unfortunatly a lot of people will b!tch and moan to you about it and dislike it very much. It's really up to how you'll feel about some guests' reactions and comments. Also, your guest count may be lower because some people will just not come.

IMHO i don't think its a good idea to have a wedding on a holiday weekend. many, many people take vacation 4th of July weekend & you may end up with a lot of no's.

if you have a small guest list maybe you can mention to some people that you are considering that weekend & get a feel for what people have to say.

i agree, but if it means that much to you have it on the 4th, whoever will really want to be there will

That's probably the exact feeling I have... There's just something special about it that makes you feel good inside. The whole idea started after a dream I had with my Grandma in it. She was just so proud of me and loved me so much and its like my way of making sure she's part of something so special to me. I just always loved celebrating their anniversary with them.

Re: Sunday and holiday weddings

we have a LARGE guest list lol. I'm one out of five and my mother is one out of 7. I have like 30 something first cousins... weeding out the list might not be such a bad thing lol.

There are certain people that I would really like to attend though and I guess its those people I should make sure are okay with it.

Thanks for the help.

is this when you want to have it? Then have it that day dont let other peopel dictate when your wedding can be. The people who are coming will come no matter what day. Also watch out sometimes a RH may jack up the price on the holiday and not lower it. I know they do it with those 9/9/09 dates and 10/10/10 dates. I was told by someone that say memorial day weekend its cheaper to get married on the sat then the sunday.

If that's the date you want, and you feel its a special day for you then you should do it... The people who love you will be there, regardless of whether its a holiday or a Sunday...

Re: Sunday and holiday weddings

we are getting married the friday of july 4th weekend. we went back and forth saying people might want to go away etc but then we said thats the date we want and the people that should be there will be there. monday july 5th is a federal holiday so most people will have off.

we didnt get any deals for having it that weekend. we saw 4 RHs and not one of them said it would be cheaper to have it that weekend.

good luck and do what feels right to you!

i just went to a sunday night wedding last night and yea it was a pain to get up this morning, but i still went and had an awesome time. so you should do whatever you want b/c people are use to sunday weddings and they will still attend.

ive been to a sunday wedding and it wasnt that bad at all. the ceremony started at one i was home by 7pm. plenty of time to get ready for work the next day. only thing was we wanted to keep drinking so we did. i had a bad headache at work the next day.lol

the holiday is a differnt story. people plan get aways vacations and family get togethers. i know we do.

so unless you plan on sending out your stds now dont be surprised if you get more nos than you thought.

i know its your wedding but you should still thing of your guest. we did.

I say go for it, plus this date is special to you, dont worry about it being inconvienent for other ppl. This is your day and the people who love you and support you will be there, they will complain but they will show up.

Re: Sunday and holiday weddings

Whoever wants to be at your wedding will be there, whether its a holiday weekend, Sunday, Tuesday, Monday or Friday. We originally didn't even ask any RH about Sunday AT ALL. We went there with the mindset that we ONLY wanted Saturday. When we realized that we couldn't add any extras that we wanted to, such as upgraded seafood, full Viennese, etc. because of the huge cost, we opted for a Sunday and decided to do it the way we want, with all the extras.

The choice is between you and your FH. Don't make a decision trying to please everyone or worrying what people will say, because you can never please everyone! The day is YOURS and do it when you want. If that day makes you happy and it has a special meaning to you, then go for it. The only problem I see is that many people make 4th of July plans way in advance so if I were you, STD would be a great idea so people know ahead of time and won't make plans if they want to be there!!!

Remember, people who want to be there will be there any day and the ones who don't, well, it is their loss in the end!
