Sunday day or evening???

Sunday day or evening???

FH and I haven't booked yet (we are going to a tasting tomorrow :) but are thinking of a Sunday wedding. We know it will be either a friday or sunday due to prices. I felt like friday was harded for OOT guests (staten island, jersey, the bronx) because they would have to deal with rush hour traffic. So we kind of decided Sunday. I've always wanted an evening wedding but I know a day wedding is priced lower. And I guess it would be easier for people who don't want to take a day off from work.
Anyone who is having a Sunday day wedding - what are you doing after the reception ends? I can't imagine our wedding day being over at 5!!

Re: Sunday day or evening???

I'd much rather attend a Sunday day wedding and know I can go home and get a good night's sleep. But if you decided on evening I'm sure people wouldn't mind going to work tired the next day.

I'm having a Saturday day wedding and the way I figure it is that the people who want to continue to party can come to the afterparty and the older people can go to a wedding and get home at a reasonable time!

1. we are having a sunday day wedding bc jews arent supposed to get married on shabbat, which rules out fri night, sat day, and sat night until sundown. we were set on aug, when sundown is late, so on a sat night our ceremony wouldn't start until 8 or 8:30, which would mean a very late reception. i have a lot of family driving 1-2 hours, and i didn't want to pay so much extra and have droves of people leaving hours early.

2. we opted for sun afternoon because: i love sunshine and daylight and our hall has beautiful grounds and an indoor/outdoor CH. also, we have a lot of OOTers and wanted to give people the option of flying back Sun night if they needed to, or driving home without leaving way early.

3. we are having an afterparty at the OOT hotel -- they have a really nice bar area . we're not doing a big thing, but about 20 rooms were booked for Sun night, so there should be a lot of people mingling and hanging out. some of my local friends are sharing a room there too. we're going to stay a little, and then go off on our own - we leave for our honeymoon in the morning.

I dont mind Friday night weddings. I figure the people who really want to be there will make it no matter what. I always did for people who had a Friday Evening wedding. At least also you will have 2 days to recover from it! lollol Sunday weddings are great too. You can always do an afterparty at a house or at a hotel etc. But then its more money & you may as well have a Sat. evening wedding! Think about it. You will have to provide drinks & food unless someone else will be doing it for you . I say Friday Evening!

We had originally wanted Sunday night of Columbus day weekend because it was like a Friday or Sat night but the the place that we really like the most right now is booked for the 11th.
I guess there are a lot of people with the same idea!! That's why we starting looking at other weekends in Oct. We do still have a few more RH's to look at. AHHH

We're doing a Sunday twighlight. Starts at 5 and ends at 11. I think that is a fair enough time for people not to have to stay out too late and if they need to leave at 10:30, they will.

Im having a Sunday night wedding, I figure people will leave no matter what but our closer family will stay til the end. We're having 150 people so we're not inviting too many people who arent close to us, mostly family and close friends....if they leave they leave, my wedding will still go on, what can I do?

It wouldnt be more money for the B & G... If guests choose to go to an after party, I'm sure they should know that it drinks are now on them...

We tried to get that weekend too at my RH. It was booked also so we pick end of September. You can always go out and party in a nice rest. or something.

Re: Sunday day or evening???

I personally would prefer to go to a day wedding only cuz I am terrible about staying to the end. But if I was going to a Sunday night wedding, I'd just schedule the following day off from work! You make these kinds of adjustments for the people you love So I figure, do whatever is best for you!

With regards to what to do after an afternoon wedding, I hear a lot of girls do afterpartys. My wedding will be over at 5pm but we'll be taking a car to a hotel in the city for some alone time

I guess i just think if you end up having an after party at a house then usually you end up providing the drinks & snacks etc. Mine is at the hotel & we are picking up that bill as well. But you definitely dont have to do that!

I booked a sunday evening wedding but I got lucky that my ceremony starts at 5:30 and my wedding ends at 11pm. So its late but not too late. I hope people stay until the end. lol.

we didnt know what we were doing ... we wanted a night time wedding but it was just way to expensive. since we have OOT guests, we decided to do it a saturday afternoon ... since its smack in the middle of the weekend, they have time to travel and since its fourth of july weekend they will have an extra day to travel. as for what we are doing after ... well its fourth of july and we know that all our friends usually go out and see a firework show so we figured hey its fourth of july go and see some fireworks!!! umm we are not planning anything official tho.

If people wont be off the next day for a holiday I would do Sunday day and then an after party

Re: Sunday day or evening???

I would opt for the day. FH and I just attended a Sunday wedding two weeks ago. Church was at 2pm (we didn't go), Reception started at 6pm. Cocktail hour was 100 minutes long. Dinner wasn't served until around 9. Guests were leaving around 10 and on. Around 11 there was a long line of people saying goodbye to the bride and groom and coffee and dessert hadn't even been served. It was a huge wedding and could have been better orchestrated. However, around 1030pm the groom asked if we were leaving because he was getting mad that everyone was going.

If you can't do it on a Monday holiday weekend, do the day. You can do an after party and you won't have to worry about everyone leaving early.

im a sunday bride, and chose it because of the price, i always wanted an evening wedding.

So, i chose to do evening, i have never been to a day wedding, but if you want then you can always do an afterparty.

my wedding ends at 10:30, which i think is fine, because even if people leave at 10pm i wont mind

Re: Sunday day or evening???

We are having a Sunday night wedding, because we wanted to have a evening wedding and since most of our guests are from out of town we figured it would be easier for them to take off one day (monday) then two days (thurs-to drive up, and fri-for the actual wedding). We ruled out Sat evening because of the prices. Also, most of my family are teachers so they are off anyway during the summer.

I've actually been back and forth on the day wedding and think I wouldn't mind having that either. Whichever you decide will be great I'm sure!!!
