This is something that has been bothering me. Originally we set our date for Oct. 25 but changed it to Oct. 26 in the afternoon. I've been really obsessing with this lately. I really want an evening reception!!! Please let me know what you think and why? I will be keeping the date the same I'm just not too sure about the time.

Re: Sunday evening vs. afternoon
fh tried to convince me to have an afternoon wedding and my reasoning for not was because i just think it is more of a party feel in the evening, i think more ppl are going to drink and then i didnt want my wedding to just end at like 5pm...i always pictured going to a hotel and having the room all setup and enjoying the night with my husband....but for those girls who are having afternoon dont be offended its just my personal opinion

I feel the same way. I've been to afternoon weddings and enjoyed myself but when I picture my wedding it just isn't what I'm picturing for me I'm a nut!!

I feel like an evening wedding is a little more fun. And I understand that Sunday evening might be tough for some because of work the next morning, but you don't need to have a reception that goes until midnight... And with your wedding being at the end of Oct. it will get darker later, so that may work to your advantage.

Re: Sunday evening vs. afternoon
FH and I are probably looking into a Sunday night wedding. We decided that it will give us and the guests the whole morning to relax, get ready, whatever. I live in Brooklyn, where the church is, and reception probably will be in Long Island. We have to make the church for about 3:00 so everyone will have time to travel into long island after the church. An evening wedding just gives us that extra time in the day. If we had an afternoon wedding, i feel like i would have to get up and go with my bridesmaids to get our hair done at 5:00AM or something.
By the way, if it wasn't obvious, I'm stressed about being late to a wedding that is a year and a half away

Re: Sunday evening vs. afternoon
honestly, no matter when you have it---ppl will enjoy themselves.
i'm having a sunday afternoon reception--everything is done by 5 p.m. at first i was worried about it and fear ppl won't want to come and have fun. now....i know that i made the right choice for us. cause a lot of ppl have said to me 'i like the idea of the wedding ending by 5 p.m.--i have a great time and we can go to the after-party or head home and be able to relax that nite!'
i know that ppl will have fun and totally celebrate the day with us, even if it's not ending at 11 or 12 at nite!

Re: Sunday evening vs. afternoon
The one difference I've noticed between a Sunday afternoon and a Sunday evening wedding is that many people tend to leave prior to the reception actually being over because they have work in the morning. I'm sure the important people will stay the whole time but if this would be something that bothers you then I would definitely consider an afternoon wedding!

Evening!!! We are having ours July 13 which is a sunday. Cocktail starts at 6. I think evening weddings are more fun. People tend to drink more at night then during the day. and I didn't want to leave my party at 5 and then be like now what.

Re: Sunday evening vs. afternoon
My wedding is a sunday afternoon. We chose this so our guests can stay the whole time and not worry about drinking too much to be hungover for work or staying out too late the night before work. Some of them don't live too close. Also, I thought there would be better photo opportunities if we got married during the day, it'd be daylight the whole time! We're also going to have an after party at the hotel after our reception so it's not like the party will really be over

I know that if your family wanted to be at your wedding they will be there if it's a saturday sunday or wednesday!!! Alot of people have told me there taking the day off after my wedding. But if they didn't that wouldn't stop them from coming and even leaving early.

Re: Sunday evening vs. afternoon
I voted for afternoon. But what about late afternoon. I think evening would be hard for some guests who have to work on the monday.
