Sunday Weddings

Hey guys! My name is Nikki, I'm new! I just got engaged about 3 weeks ago and I'm in the process of picking a reception and ceremony site. Its so overwhelming! Anyway, I am looking to have a sunday night wedding but I am a little apprehensive about people having to work the next day. I would think that if the reception started at 5 and ended at 11 (with the extra viennese hour) that people would stay, but I'm not sure. My FFIL and FMIL seem to think people will leave. I def don't want there to only be half the guests left at like 9. Does anyone have any experience with sunday weddings? What do you guys think?

Thanks so much!!!!!!

Re: Sunday Weddings

I think it depends on your crowd. I could see a 'younger' crowd staying later than a bunch of people my parent's age.

I personally don't have a problem with Sunday night weddings! I am a night person and it's just more of an excuse to take off Monday from work! Good luck with your planning

I wouldnt have a problem with it either...you can make it earlier than 5 if you were concerned about people leaving...I personally would stay the whole time & it gives me an excuse to take the next day off...

Welcome & Congratulations....

Happy Planning...

One of my sisters had a sunday night wedding and she had around 150 guests attend at the swan club. There was still alot of people partying until the end. Don't let others stress you for choosing that day.

i agree, don't let the time or day stress you out... it's your day and people will come and party until whatever time to share your day with you, i am sure. even when i've thought to myself that i have to get up for work the next day, that goes right out the window once i am enjoying the party!
we decided to have a sunday wedding to save some money (as opposed to a saturday night) but with our hall, we are the ONLY wedding that day so we could pick any time for the reception. so we are havingn our CH at 4 and the reception 5-9. so i won't be getting ready and rushing around at the crack of dawn (ceremony at church is at 1) but by the time the party is over, it won't be too too late. so if you're really worried about it, maybe you can find a hall like that.
congrats on your engagement and good luck!

First, congrats and welcome! I was married 3 weeks ago, on a Sunday. Our Cocktail Hr was 5-6 and reception was 6-10:30, people started leaving around 10. Some left earlier, but not enough to make that big of a difference. Also, if you do a viennese Hr, pass the word around, I think if people hear that they'll stay. We had a chocolate fountain, and so many people heard about it and stayed until it was carted off!

HTH!

I had a Sunday wedding but I wanted it during the day because #1 it was cheaper, #2 people had plenty of time to get home and #3 we were on the water and I wanted to have an incredible view the whole time. If you would consider a daytime wedding you could always meet somewhere afterwards and continue the party :)

Re: Sunday Weddings

My FSIL got married on a Sunday evening and she had her reception from 6pm-12mid, and maybe 20 people left early. Not one person from her family, his family, or friends left early. The only one's that did were neighbors, or friends of their parents, and they left at 11pm (when the VH opened), no earlier. I do not think that people will have a problem with the party ending at 11pm. JMO

Good luck and WELCOME and Congrats!!!

Re: Sunday Weddings

I just went to a wedding last night (sunday night). It started at 5, but really the ceremony was at 5:45 and i think we got home around midnight when the reception ended.

Since i am currently sitting at work this morning (8am)... i'm not too happy about it.

But... the wedding was in my town. Now if i was an out of town guest, a sunday night wedding would be a bit much. Especially since people will often drive the 3-4 hours home that night instead of staying over. That could be a bit of an inconvenience and probably why some leave early.

But like someone else said... are you having mostly a young crowd to the wedding or a lot of older people?

i am having a sunday wedding

i didnt really think about people leaving for work

but i made sure i sent out save the dates so people knew it was a sunday in advance so they can make arrangements

but it has never been vocalized by anyone about it being a sunday

,y church is at 330 then reception 630-1130

if they leave o well they leave at least they were with u for your day even if it was a little while

i dont see a problem with it

others may disagree

a sunday was what worked in our budget

so do what works for you

Re: Sunday Weddings

I opted for a Sunday for many reasons but I am having my ceremony start at 2 p.m. I am having everything at the Old Field Club. I payed just a TINY bit more per head so I could have the club the ENTIRE day. I am getting ready there, ceremony, pics, everything and when it is over at 7:30 we are going to downtown Port Jefferson, Danford's bar/restaurant/club/hotel. Check out your options, you have so many

Re: Sunday Weddings

Sunday night weddings are not a problem in my eyes - one of my friends got married on a Sunday and FH and I knew we would be exhausted so we just took off the next day.

Re: Sunday Weddings

Our wedding was on a Sunday. The cocktail hour was at 6, and the reception was from 7 to 11. People started to trickle out maybe around 10:30 or so. It wasn't bad at all, and we still had a ball. There were also quite a few who partied to the very last song

Don't sweat it. With plenty of notice people either take off or go in late. We had some guests say before the wedding, during the RSVP time, oh, it's a Sunday. Those same people stayed almost right til the end.

I've been to a sunday wedding and some people left little earlier, but there was still a huge crowd that stayed. I've been to friday and saturday weddings where just as many people left earlier as well. People who want to stay will stay. Do whats most convenient for you and your FH.

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the boards.

I definitely agree that people staying depends on the crowd. My FSIL wedding was on a Sunday. Older guests and guests with children left early, but all of her coworkers and friends stayed until the end.

Re: Sunday Weddings

I had a Sunday morning/day wedding, but it's VERY normal to have Sunday night weddings. After my wedding there were a couple different weddings starting as mine finished.
It really shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Sunday Weddings

I am hvaing a Sunday night wedding. My ceremony is at 1:00 and the reception is from 6-11:30. We sent out save the dates and provided a hotel for our out of town guests. Our family and friends are so excited about the wedding, not one person has mentioned the day or time. If you decide on a Sunday evening wedding, the people who matter most to you will be there, and that is what is most important. Good luck.

Re: Sunday Weddings

I noticed your having your wedding on columbus day weekend. I also had mine that sunday and only a few left early. Most people have off on columbus day, and others will simply take the day off in consideration. Either way, dont worry about it. I had the same timeline and I can count on one hand how many guests left early.
