Hey guys! My name is Nikki, I'm new! I just got engaged about 3 weeks ago and I'm in the process of picking a reception and ceremony site. Its so overwhelming! Anyway, I am looking to have a sunday night wedding but I am a little apprehensive about people having to work the next day. I would think that if the reception started at 5 and ended at 11 (with the extra viennese hour) that people would stay, but I'm not sure. My FFIL and FMIL seem to think people will leave. I def don't want there to only be half the guests left at like 9. Does anyone have any experience with sunday weddings? What do you guys think?
Thanks so much!!!!!!

Re: Sunday Weddings
I'm having my wedding on a sunday night as well. I'm also having a viennese hour but I'm keeping it inclusive of the original 4 hour party b/c to extend the wedding another hour would make it very late and I don't want my guests to miss out.

Re: Sunday Weddings
i have my wedding on a sunday ceremony 2:00 reception 5-10 i did think about people leaving early which is what helped us decide NOT to have the viennese, i don't want to spend all that money and people don't even stay for it, i agree with what others have said, i think it depends on people's ages, older people might leave earlier, or even depending on a person's job, and also how far they live from the hall, my hall is the Jericho Terrace and most people will be coming from Brooklyn, not that far but a good 45 minutes, 2 couples from NJ i fully expect them to leave early, i would too, just do whatever is easiest and best for you, if some people leave its okay, some people Will stay, good luck

Re: Sunday Weddings
I'm getting married on a Sunday. My FH and I were apprehensive as well. So, here is what we are doing....4:00 ceremony, 4:30-5:30 CH and reception from 5:30-9:30. This way it won't be too late for those who have to go to work the next day. Most of my family and close friends say that they are simply going to take off the next day! And for those that can't, they can be home by 10/10:30 and in bed by 11! Hope this helps! Bottom line, it's YOUR day and people who love and care for you won't care that it's a Sunday. For those that complain, well.....that's their problem.

Re: Sunday Weddings
first, congrats on your engagement! and welcome to the boards!
I am having a sunday reception too. My reception is from 6:30- 1130 and trust me, i freak out all the time that people are going to leave, especially since we have some guests commuting from NJ and once one person starts to leave, they all line up! I decided that i am going to wait as long as possible to cut the cake. Many people usually stick around till the cutting of the cake and then leave.. so i think i will cut the cake around 10:45! hope that helps! good luck!

Re: Sunday Weddings
everyone gave great replies so far and i hope they are easing your worries... fh and i would have never been able to afford (b/c we have so many guests) our beautiful location if we did not get married on a sunday (also, i only wanted evening)... so it was either, get married on a sunday evening at flowerfield or get married on a friday night at a place that was A LOT cheaper (with no chocolate fountain b/c we could not afford it if they didn't include it-- which FF did for me, also that means maybe not getting as much as we are getting in terms of food and quality with FF) so all in all, we would have been at a place that wasn't that nice (then people would be complaining about the food or the place not being as pretty)... so for us, to have it at a nicer place on a less popular day won out b/c when it's all said and done that is what they are going to remember: how great the place, music, grounds, food, service, etc was. so that's why we went with a sunday evening. now i don't know about the guests leaving early but for us: i don't think any of my FH's side would DARE leave early b/c they would be afraid of my FMIL lol-- we had a man come to our e-party who had just broken three ribs about a week before!!!! he came about thirty minutes late and said that he was SO sorry he was late but it was so hard with his broken ribs but that he knew better than to miss the party b/c of my FMIL!! LOL so i know no one from his side would dare-- but if my side does then they do, oh well-- i will sent out save the dates and they will all know it's a sunday evening-- they will either make arrangements or deal. i have done it before for their parties-- my cousin's wedding was on a friday night and i had work the next morning at 7am (yes, people do work on saturday's and sunday's lol). so since it's only one day i think they can muddle through or if they feel they cannot-- take the following day off. my ceremony is 2:15pm, my CH starts at 6:30-7:30 and then the reception is 7:30-11:30. good luck, do what you feel is right and follow your heart and take into consideration only what your FH thinks-- if your FIL's are really that worried about it perhaps they'll spring the extra money for a friday or saturday night (although they will fall over when they see the difference)... good luck, hth and welcome aboard!!!

I noticed your having your wedding on columbus day weekend. I also had mine that sunday and only a few left early. Most people have off on columbus day, and others will simply take the day off in consideration. Either way, dont worry about it. I had the same timeline and I can count on one hand how many guests left early.
I agree....holiday weekends are great for sunday weddings. I wouldnt worry about it...Im not (I am getting married sunday night of labor day weekend)Good luck and happy planning.
