Sunny side up & the 'disaster' we almost had at the dr's yesterday!
So I have my 32 week checkup yesterday. The results are back from the sonogram from 9/4 & we're talking about the results.Good news: baby is head down, measurements place the baby in the 50th% for weight at this time, the baby is very active (duh!) & has a strong heartbeat. GREAT!
Bad news: the baby is face up.
What does this mean? I ask. The dr goes on to explain that the baby's head is turned up instead of down which could make for a harder labor & a slightly higher risk of c/s.
He assures me that there's plenty of time yet befor the baby gets 'locked' into position. (He says they call it Sunnyside Up!
) I remain calm & quietly say a prayer to the labor gods.
(as we're talking, he's showing me the report)
THEN ... he asks if I want to know the gender. I say NO! He quickly takes the paper away & throws it into the file!! He says ... it was right there on the report!!! Luckily for me, I wasn't really reading it, but .... could you imagine after all that time & pleading with the tech's at the sonogram NOT to give it away!!!
So it was a 'disaster' that we averted ... I would have been sooo dissapointed to find out, but all's well that end's well! Just keep your fingers crossed for me girls ... I'm trying my best to coax this baby into a good position!!

Re: Sunny side up & the 'disaster' we almost had at the dr's yesterday!
At hypnobirthing we discussed a study that was done a few years back that proved that women who unlock their minds and concetrate on their baby's position can, in fact, have the baby move to the proper position. Also, don't forget that baby's move around still so your doctor is totally right, there are weeks left for the baby to pick a new spot
You know NONE of our u/s techs even wrote down a guess about the gender. I even asked if they did that and they all said no- 3 different places.

If it is any help and relief...I was born 'sunny-side-up.' My mom had me with little/no complications naturally. The only thing she said was that it was more painful than normal!Best wishes!

I love some of the pregnancy expressions - 'sunny side up' sounds so positive.OK - come on baby move around! Maybe if you played some dance must it might motivate the baby to get 'jiggy with it'!

How cute!I was born breech (sp?).
My but wanted to come out first, but then they pulled me out feet first.

Re: Sunny side up & the 'disaster' we almost had at the dr's yesterday!
Have you been having back pain? That is one sign that the baby is sunny up. I labored with a sunny up baby and used positions I learned in childbirth class to get the baby to turn. I had lots of back labor and it was attributed to this. You can have the baby that way so do not fear. Remember, mind over matter.

Victoria .... I have been having a lot of back pain. It's always been a bit of a problem for me & a chiropractor once told me that it would be a problem when I got pregnant, so I was kind of expecting it. The sciatica was not expected though!
Its been so bad lately that I can hardly get out of bed sometimes. We're actually starting childbirth classes tonight & I'll be sure to be asking about this. Thanks for tip on positioning. How bad was your labor? Did you go natural, or were you able to get an epidural? I'm trying to stay as positive as possible ... I'm thinking that the drugs are the only way to go!

Christine- I have had sciatica since May 28th so I UNDERSTAND you pain. I also add a nice compressed left femoral nerve to the mix for extra fun.Sometimes if I use an ice pack on my back it can help me get thru a few hours. Maybe it can help you too? Also, I got these good quality insole arches for my sneakers that seems to also help me.
I hope you feel better and your little egg turns...

Michele ... are you alternating heat & ice? b/c some people say apply heat. I'm not sure what to do so I usually just wind up taking a Tylenol before bed & try to get as comfortable as possible. Today is a particularly bad day, though ...
With my ever expanding belly & added back pain ... I'm a sight walking in the hallways
