Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

My cousin's wedding was at Sunset Harbour. I think the room is nice and the bridal suite is convenient. The view is really pretty with the water right there.

To be perfectly honest with you, there were some things that weren't great there...

1. My cousin had an outside ceremony. They used those cheap white plastic chairs on the wood deck for the guests. Some guests actually fell off the chairs (and they weren't big people). Either the chairs were old or cheap but it was pretty bad.

2. Some of the appetizers like the pigs in a blanket were burnt (ok, stuff like that could just happen - no big deal)

3. The location of the bar is kind of far from the room. It's in that big other room. If you've been there you know what I mean.

Sorry to be so negative! I really did have a nice time at my cousin's wedding.

Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

That wedding was almost three years ago so they could have improved on those chairs.

Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

I went to wedding reception there 2 weeks ago - ad my DH was in the wedding party. The ceremony was elsewhere.

Getting there - it's a maze, so keep that in mind for your OOT guests.

Two - The line at the bar is situated badly, so many guests were unable to get to the food on either end of the bar during the cocktail hour.

Three - The day was over cast, so they didn't allow anyone outside and they didn't have any lights on for the smokers who went out there

Four - this couple chose a buffet for their evening reception and it needless to say that didn't work out too well since although tables were called out, the way they situated the tables and had guests line up cut into the space other tables needed for guests to sit down at their own seat

Five - this couple didn't use the in house DJ, so the sound and noise level reverbated across the walls and made the floor and table shake at times and made it impossible to talk to anyone unless you went to the main lobby.

Six - this couple had to decorate their own dais table. Not sure if this was done intentionally or not, but all the doorways had to be decorated by the couple as well, so the wedding party did this the night before the wedding and the day of.

Seven - the bridal room is close to the room, but also it was not watched by the bridal attendant as many non-wedding people went in and out of there all night, so I would question security of possessions in there.

That's about all I can think of at the moment. If you want more specifics, let me know, or fm me. I'd be happy to help!

Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

what other 2 venues are you looking at?

I don't know personally but I've heard Sunset Harbour isn't the greatest, but it always depends on what you're looking for.

Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

I have never attended a wedding there, but I did go to a bridal showcase there and did consider it for my own wedding.
I love the location! It is very peaceful and beautiful! I have heard some people say it is hard to get to. Maybe it is bc I live fairly locally, but although it is a bit off the beaten path I don't think it is really that hard to find.
They had a buffet at the bridal showcase - the food was hot and was constantly replenished. The bar was a bit of a walk from the main dining room, however it is centrally located and of course the waitstaff will attend to your guests as well.
If you are planning on having your ceremony there, I would be concerned if you need handicapped accessibility. The ceremony is up on the deck and there are steps leading up to it, no ramp.
The price, of course, was very reasonable; they seemed to offer a lot more food for your money than most other places I looked at.
Good luck wih your decision!

Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

My friend got married there in 05...the power went out...it was JULY! No AC, electricity, DJ. We mad the best of it, took the party outside, where I got bit up by mosquitos. But it was for about 1/2 hour, then the power came back. Everything else was great, but I will never forget that.

Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

I have been to several events there, and a wedding there 2 years ago. I live very close to there, and it just wasn't for me, but it was a nice time. The food was good, as far as I remember it, but I see what others are saying about the bar. But all in all...it was a good place, and a reasonable price. Good luck in your search!

I have been to their restaurant next door (Trumpets on the Bay...FH proposed there ) and the food and service were AMAZING! I would assume that the RH next door would be the same.

I remember this ~ My FH rents is office from the Marina Owner next to Sunset Harbor and I was there the same night this wedding was going on... hysterical ~ I felt so bad... but i saw when everyone was outside and looked like so much fun despite there was no electricity...

i am getting married there this year.i been 3 other weddings there and all i can say is AWESOME.!!!!!!!!! I Never experince anything like the other post stated. the food is out of the world. the bar is kinda away from the reception room but thats what your paying the waitstaff to do. i personly like the bar that way its better then having those roll out bars. the room is beautiful and very roomy.your not squashed like sardines. the dance floor is big. i hate small dance floors. the view is great.

i don;t think its a maze to get to either. its not far off montauk highwayonce your on south country road its 3 friggins turns a right and a right then a left into the place. i don;t see that as being a maze.

i am not using the house dj either because i don't like them but i am confident in my dj that i chose to do a wonderful job and the sound will be great. my best friend got married at east winds and one dj mentioned to them about the sound in that place how the music echos etc well guess what that dj lost there buiness and they went with another one and the music was great no echoing.so yur dj needs toknow how to do his job right and there will be no problems.

everyone has the right to there opinions and this is mine. i think if yo chose sunset harbour you will be very very pleased.

I have heard of Sunset Harbor but I have never attended a wedding there. I would take into consideration what the other girls are saying, but remember everyone's search for the perfect place is different. Good luck!

Re: sunset harbour..patchogue

I do have to say since my FH's business is right next to the sunset harbor there is a bar outside that we go to all the time (& the food is quite yummy) I am sure the food is probably the same / similar since it is a family owned ~ the son is law owns the bar I beleive the the father owns Sunset Harbor. (I forget the exact relationship of the owners - but FH is very friendly with the owners of Sunset Harbor and the Outside Tiki Bar)

I think the area is Gorgeous and Dockside 500 is one of the most prettiest marina's out there for a wedding also.... Plus I don't feel it is confusing to get to also it is a couple of blocks away from South Country Road...

I am sure if you choose Sunset Harbor you wouldnt be dissapointed.... but you really should go down yourself and check it out personally ~ everyone has different opinions and desires for the own wedding day!

I have taken alot of brides or future brides advise and ideas on this website - but my biggest advise is go for yourself.... what is great and awesome for one bride is not the for another...

(my example: there were tons of raves and reviews on certain flower designer and when i went to the meeting i was not impressed, it just was not for me, i did not have a great experience... but this vendor gets awesome raves and reviews all the time)

So just go check out each place before you make your final decision! Good Luck!
