Her party was outrageous, but I think the girl who got the Range Rover was more annoying.

The girl with the rangerover was such a whiney brat. 'dad...mom cancelled my credit card' Where do they find these people??? I just can't imagen having a sweet 16 party worth a half a million dollars...I mean I am trying to plan a wedding under $15,000!

I missed last nights, but a saw a few this weekend! They were rediculous!
And I thought some of the ones I went to were outrageous, they were nothing compared to these!
Iwonder if the family of the one girl (range rover girl) sat and watched theirs and got slapped in the face w/ how obnoxious and spoiled their daughter really is...

What is our world coming to? You wonder why other countries look at us and think we are so materialistic. You see people like this.
I didn't watch the show but heard about it.
Can you guys tell me where she is from, what her parents do for a living and how they have so much money. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They mentioned that her Mother is Muslim and her father Jewish. They didn't specify country of origin, but to me they definitely seemed to be immigrants.
I don't understand why everyone gets so mad about these shows? You say things like: 'What is this world coming to?' I mean REALLY!!! Let's worry about murders, war, violence, drugs, etc. etc...
Who cares how super-rich people spend their money? If you were super-rich, you'd give your kids everything they wanted too. Don't disagree unless you can honestly tell me that your money comes from a source other than you having to work for it!!!!!
The stores on Fifth Avenue don't stay open with my business (read: THERE ARE PLENTY OF RICH PEOPLE IN THE WORLD)
Personally, I was more offended by the commercials for BOOGEYMAN and THE GRUDGE. What kind of $hit is that?

Pardon me but I don't think i was MAD or ANGRY about anything here. I stated a fact about how a lot of people outside the US view our country as very materialistic and if any people viewed this outside our country i think this show would just prove it.
AND don't think for one minute if i was super rich i would give my kids everything. I would make sure they had a good college education and maybe a good cell phone to call me should something happen, but i am not buying them a car or throwing them a $200,000 sweet 16. That is NOT how you show kids your love. My family was pretty well off and i had to buy my first car, pay my own rent after college and what not. I didn't get crazy parties or trips. My parents always felt that if they didn't show us the value of money then we would go out in this world not aware of it. It has mad a much better person. All four of us in our house moved out by the time we were 22 into our own places with our own brought cars. Trust me i was never deprived of anything but my parents did not think giving me everything i wanted made me a better person. The girl even states in the show that 'If they loved me they would give me a Range Rover'. That's pretty sad if you ask me.

What worries me more is the added peer pressure this show is going to perpetuate. MTV is a huge source for young women...is this what we want every 16 year old girl to aspire to?

I feel bad for these girls too. When we were kids sweet 16s were no where near what they are today. I went to one of my friends sisters last year and it was like a wedding, announced coming in, first dance with father, cake cutting. While it was nice it cost the family a fortune adn her mother was telling us that she didn't know what to do because all of her friends were having one adn she would of been devestated if she didn't have one.
Its just gonna get worse and worse in my opinion of people trying to one up each other.

Since when has sweet 16 taken out the candle lighting and added dancing girls on speakers to the tradition? don't get me wrong, the candles put me to sleep, but things have def changed

Re: Super Sweet 16
The girl last night BOUGHT her 'friends'. 1/2 the people didn't even know who she was. The fact that they went to Vegas for her dress was beyond overboard.
I laughed my arse off when one of the girls said something to the affect of 'she bought my friendship.' She is a mini Paris Hilton its pathetic. These kids will never know what it is to work for anything.

I think the candle lighting is a NY type thing. I believe it is similar to a bar/bat mitzpah tradition. Most of my friends in VA have never heard of the candle dedication thing.

Re: Super Sweet 16
I took 10 friend to dinner at fridays when i was 16..it was what we could afford and it was fine with me, but then again..i've always been kind of shy and the thought of a huge party for ME scared me at the time, lol..
I kind of just laugh when i see the commercials for this show. I haven't sat down and watched but i can only imagine!! I guess i am baffled that people feel the need to fill their childs every whim and expectation...if you have tons of money, its your business where you spend it. For me personally...I think giving your kids everything makes them spoiled, unappreciative brats...and i agree with the comment that i will let my kids know what its like to earn something and feel proud of it.
These girls will have the party of their lifetime and then be left facing the 'oh my god what next' feeling. Nothing will probably ever be enough...
I thank my lucky stars every day that I was taught to appreciate the things I did have and that working for something makes you appreciate it even more. It has helped me tremendously in life!!
