Surprised at the person who made me sad **with poll**
Long story short...invites came in today and FH and i are thrilled. We're doing a black and white color scheme and i ordered pocketfold invites. To dress up the outside, i added a satin ribbon and a diamante embellishment. I showed it to a few people and they loved it! (I do however plan on a little bit of a thicker satin ribbon with a round embellishment). I bring the sample home excited to show my mom and first she doesnt like the satin or the embellishment. Then she asks why only our names are in script. That if we're going so formal the entire invite should have been in script. Im so annoyed. Pics are posted. Sorry the ribbon one was taken with my camera phone. Please let me know if i should leave it plain or if i should do the slightly thicker ribbon with round embellishment.

The picture with the ribbon didnt come out. I think if you like it and you got so many good reviews from other people than you should do what you want. My mother is the same way. Everyone will compliment something and she'll have something negative to say.

the ribbon pic didnt come out. our invites only have our name in script, and i actually prefer that look. it doesnt mean its any less formal.

I think they look great the way they are...a thicker ribbon might be nice too...not sure....
I'm pretty sure only the bride and grooms name are suppose to be in script pull up some samples to show her. Maybe mom was just having an off night. Sorry...

The ribbon im looking at isnt much thicker. You really cant notice unless they are directly next to eachother. The circles i am getting are slightly larger than the ovals so i need a ribbon that is a tiny bit thicker. As for the names in script, she thinks everything should have been in script. It's just getting annoying. She knows i was upset with FMIL a few weeks ago and basically tried to make the situation worse. I dont get it...this is so unlike my mom.

could be pms or m e n o p a u s e. i'm sure she didnt mean to hurt your feelings. i think any of the 3 options would look great.
the buckles can get expensive especially with postage so keep that in mind, but i think it looks classy and elegant without them too

my invites are going to be the same way...only names in script..theres def nothing wrong with that! and i like the ribbon with the buckle....where did u get yours?? im looking now for good deals on them

a lot of times our moms are stuck in the time in which they planned their own wedding.....my mom nearly died when I told her i didn't want the traditional all white wedding invitation......times have changed and I think it is just hard for them to let the past stay in the past WELCOME TO 2008-OUR year.....they're are beautiful and if you love them that is all that counts.....I have learned that i love my mom and I love her opinions, but when I ask her the reasons why she doesn't like some of my choices 9 out of 10 it comes to well, when I got married blah blah blah.....that is when I know she likes it, but she is not uncomfortable with the new way of life, if she tells me 'real' reasons why she doesn't like something-color bad on you, looks cheap etc.....then I know she truly doesn't like it today, nor would she have liked it 20 years ago.....I will stop blabbing....now go start stuffing those envelopes!!!!!

I am having a 'Formal Attire' Wedding....didn't want to say black tie bc i don't want all the men in a tux...but trust me, it's formal......and my invites are the same way. The only thing that is script is our names.

Actually, i honestly prefer the names to only be inscript. I just saw a very large and expensive invite at my grandmas house that she got, and it was IMPOSSIBLE to read, it had the most fanciest script i have ever seen. and it just didnt look right. They also had the directions card, made up as well in the same script.
I think your invites are gorgeous!!!

Maybe try it with the thicker ribbon. but it looks really pretty
I never heard of all script invitations being more formal but im not the etiquitte guru
I think the invite does look formal- especially with the ribbon and rinestone buckle.
I like it alot- i wouldnt worry what one person things...even if it is your mom.

Actually on the suggestion from someone else, im heading to the garment district in the city where they said it is cheaper cause otherwise it is going to cost me $450 for the buckles yet i will be discarding 2 from each package I really dont want to spend another $450 on top of what i already spent so we are checking it out! HTH! When i go i will update you.

I think your invites look beautiful! Why your mom didn't bite her tongue, beyond me. I think people are going to LOVE them and then tell HER they LOVE them and she'll feel silly.... Great job!!

Thanks ladies....it just deflated my bubble because FH and i loved them!!! It was such a special day yesterday when we picked them up. I guess it really put it into perspective that we're actually getting married when we saw our names on the invite--strange eh? It really isnt my Mom's taste but we still love it so that's all that matters. She'll warm up to them once we actually do them. She has no choice. If she wants hers plain, ill send her a plain one
