Long story short...invites came in today and FH and i are thrilled. We're doing a black and white color scheme and i ordered pocketfold invites. To dress up the outside, i added a satin ribbon and a diamante embellishment. I showed it to a few people and they loved it! (I do however plan on a little bit of a thicker satin ribbon with a round embellishment). I bring the sample home excited to show my mom and first she doesnt like the satin or the embellishment. Then she asks why only our names are in script. That if we're going so formal the entire invite should have been in script. Im so annoyed. Pics are posted. Sorry the ribbon one was taken with my camera phone. Please let me know if i should leave it plain or if i should do the slightly thicker ribbon with round embellishment.

I think it looks really pretty with the ribbon! But, do what you feel comfortable with! Great choice with the invites.

I think they look super. My mom is all into having our invites in script, too...and I don't think we're going to do it. I love all the fonts out there. They seem to think formality = script. There are no rules anymore, do what you like!

I think it looks beautiful, if you like a thicker ribbon then change it but it looks nice the way it is.

aww i know what you mean, i was so excited about a few things and when i showed my mother she was like 'i dont like it' and i just got so upset, bc then it makes me want to change it, even though i really dont want to...i know it is easier siad then done, but i would do whatever you like, i think the invitations look beautiful the way you are, but im sure if and whatever you decide to do with them will look beautiful as well...try not to worry about it

Ditto...our names also will be in script on our invites. I feel like it just makes it stand out a litle. I like that look.

Your invites look beautiful. Can't please all the people all the time. Sorry that your mom bursted your bubble on it, but do what makes you happy! I love your invites.

my invites are in my album, u can take a peek... when i first showed my mother my invite she in her own words... 'didn't understand it'.. when i showed her my envelope print.. she said oh....

i ignored her.. as hard as it was, as hurtful as that comment was i ignored it...

my invites have gotten SUCH amazing reviews, I have people who has asked me to do their envelope printing, or make their invites. one invitee lost her invite because she took it work to show everyone. and she thinks someone there stole it.. and now that the reviews and comments are coming in from my mom's family, she can't stop telling everyone how her daughter did them herself and how much time and thought i put into it and how beautiful they are..

point is, ignore her.. like someone mentioned, momma's get sort of stuck in 'their wedding day and time' and don't realize that 'our wedding day and time' is something different.. she'll love it when it's done.. i think someone here mentioned their mom cried when she said she wasn't wearing stockings? my mom, aunt and I had an argument over a veil.. . it happens..

i would suggest, that you look for a thicker ribbon though.. it would give a more dramatic look. i used a midori 5 inch wide ribbon, and a rhinestone button embellishment. i think for u'r diamante embeliishment you want it to stand out in the ribbon.. so the ribbon needs to be nice and thick.. look at a 3 inch wide ribbon at least..

Our event is going to be very formal and only our names were in script on the invite. Your names stand out that way.

Thanks so much for your encouragement!! BTW your invites are beautiful!!!!!! I am using a larger ribbon but no more than 1-11/2 inch ribbon because the invites are not that wide and it looked too wide on them. I'll post pics with a thicker ribbon as soon as i get one. Thanks again for your help. I'm feeling much better!
