I'm wondering how many of you knew FH was going to propose before he did.
A friend of mine told me yesterday that she was looking through FH's email ( which I think is totally wrong) and found an email to his parents discussing the engagement ring, how much it was, photos of it ect. She knew he was thinking about proposing but they didn't go looking at rings and he wanted to make it a surprise. I think she totally ruined his plan. They haven't been dating all that long and she told him about 3 months ago that she wanted to wait. I'm not sure if she's excited or just anxious now that she knows its going to happen.

wow, she saw how much he paid for it? lol. She ruined it. I had a feeling he was going to propose. We were pretty open about talking about getting engaged and went looking for rings, but I didnt know when or where he was going to do it.

I just had a feeling it was coming soon, but the actual proposal was a surprise. We went ring shopping together and I picked out a bunch, and he picked the final one without my help.

I knew it was coming sometime in the near future because we had discussed it, but it was sooner than I expected- i was surprised the day he did it.

IMO its not cool how she found out. I expected it but only b/c I know FH too well and his actions gave him away. Its sad that she took the surprise out of it b/c that is part of the excitement of getting engaged, which I am a little upset that I missed out on.

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
I forgot to answer my own question.
FH and I had been dating 6 years at the time so I knew it was in the works. We talked about it a lot and looked at rings casually a few times. He ended up going and getting one on his own and it was nothing like what we looked at and I loved it. He also propsed when we were supposed to be having a romantic Valentines day weekend since he was working late on that day durring the week. He propsed early in the morning and we spent the rest of the weekend celebrating. I can't say I was surprised but I was still totally in shock when it did happen.

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
I went with FH to my friends husband who is in Gems. We picked out my stone together & then he brought over some settings & then actually had one that i have been looking for made. So i choose the few i liked best & Fh picked out the final thing! (he got the ring i loved made). So yes i knew it was coming just not exactly when teh proposal was. However, i too know exacly how much it is etc. You're going toknow anyway, i mean youhave to have your ring insured & appraised & for that you need all of the documents including the receipt.
I however, do not see why she is looking into her boyfriends email. Maybe thats an issue right there!

I'm in the same boat as everyone else I guess, I knew it was coming (bc FH was acting really funny LOL) but the actual proposal was a huge suprise.

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
Well, not one actually told me it was coming, but it was our 4-year anniversary and FH had been acting weird all week. He mysteriously disappeared one night (he went to ask my dad's permission), and he made a big deal about saying I couldn't work late that Friday.
so, I knew it was coming. In fact, it's a good thing he did propose, because I would have been very upset if he hadn't.

Awww that $ucks that she knows now!
I went with FH to pick out my diamond and setting and pretty much customized my ring. I knew it would happen but didn't know when. He kept telling me he didn't have the money for the ring and I believed him!

I knew it was coming - it was just a matter of time....As for how much an everythign is, you are going to end up finding out when you go for the appraisal and insure it..... but thats just wrong going through is email...

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
I had a feeling it was coming, but I had no idea when he was planning it for. He had always said he wouldnt do it on a vacation or a holiday, so when our trip to FL came in April I didnt expect it.
Turns out he was trying to throw me off. The thought crossed my mind at the beginning of the trip but I was still surprised when he actually did propose later on into the trip!

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
i knew he was going to do it. i just didn't know when or that he had the ring. but when the day came i knew it. he has being all secretive and making tons of calls. we were going out to dinner that night but he said he had a surprise for me before dinner. but he couldn't do what he wanted to becasue it was raining that day and the helicopter ride was canceled. he was going to propose on the helicopter but he did it over dinner instead.

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
We discussed marriage and both decided to wait to get engaged until I finshed school this coming May, I guess this was his way of throwing me off, so when he proposed in March I had no idea it was happening until he got down on one knee!

I knew but he kept trying to throw me off. b/c I knew he had the ring but that's all. He took me out to north fork to a b& b for the wknd but kept saying all these reasons he COULDNT do it yet. . but as the events started adding up I kept thinking - this has to be it - earrings, a massage, a diamond pendant from his grandmother, then dinner, I was like THIS HAS TO BE IT - but didnt'w want to assume b/c I would be dissapointed if not - then finally after dinner, it happened.

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
I knew about it because we had discussed it, and I also helped pick out the ring. Then he hid it in the apartment, but since he can't keep a secret, he told me which weekend it was going to happen (so I made sure to get a manicure!). Then he told me it was going to happen during dinner. Then he told me while we were at dinner, because he was so excited, which COURSES it was going to be between! So it was funny. He can't keep secrets at all, he just HAS to tell them and if you guess the secret and you can tell from the way he acts that you are right.

Re: Surprised or not surprised?
i had no clue. obviously we had discussed it so i knew it would be eventually, but i was totally shocked. in fact i was getting pretty annoyed that we weren't engaged yet! he took care of everything during work, and if i called his office people would just tell me he was in a meeting which really wasn't strange esp given the state of the market. i think part of my shock was that i was convinced that he wouldn't be able to surprise me! it was amazing.
