Sweet Home Alabama comes to NJ? (veil)

Sweet Home Alabama comes to NJ? (veil)

Ok so as many ladies know, I am having a veil debacle because the haircomb my MOH bought me is beautiful, but REALLY big and totally made my desire for a long veil ridiculous.

I posted here a bit back and someone suggested a birdcage veil and at first i was like eh, but then i watched sweet Home Alabama again and said 'OOOO I LOVED THAT!' Didnt realize it was a birdcage veil lol. I love vintage jewlery (e-ring has a slightly vintage look as does the bracelet I am wearing the day of. ) I think the veil would look awesome with my hairstyle and the whole package, but I wanted to get opinons...The veil would tuck under the comb in place of the feather but it would be worn to the side like in the second pic.

Also, does anyone know of a place in NY where I could try one on just to make sure it suits my face shape? Thanks in advance.

Wear whichever veil you want, but one piece of advice: make sure everything you wear on your wedding day is what you want. You've intimated before that the headpiece your MOH bought you is not what you really want... if you've changed your mind, that's one thing. Just don't compromise on what you really want (if, e.g., you really want that long veil) because someone bought you something you're not in love with. She WILL understand if you had to return it.

Otherwise, just do what YOU want. You'll look beautiful no matter what.

Thanks Kara. My mom said that too but honestly, it isn't that I do not love the piece. It's just that I love two different visions of my wedding, if that makes sense. One vision included a flowing mantilla, spring gardens and country club gazeebos, candlelight centerpieces and a springtime wedding with periwinkle blue and white as the wedding colors. The other vision was a summer wedding with bright colors, centerpieces that were easy and eye-catching, some funk to it and a modern vintage twist for my wardrobe day of.

When I went with my MOH to look for her dress, the vintage modern side of me loved the comb and expressed that which is why she jumped the gun and made it a gift-she knew I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. So I really do have to wear it and it is fine because I love it. I just have to give up on the other vision of the vel which is fine. I think honestly, since the style of our wedding is more second vision then first anyway.

I am fine with it. I am an Aquarian lol. We tend to be ecclectic-change our minds quickly and get over things even mroe quickly. I am wearign red heels and the FH is wearing a more modern look for his tux (red vest and tie to match his doc martens) so the long mantilla was somehwat pretentious and I felt that way for a bit. But like we all have done, I hemmed and hawwed. Actuall seeing the piece made the decision easier because in my hair when twisted to the right shape it does look amazing and will sparkle like the dickens. I think it 'fits' more with the dress, jewlery and the shoes. I only have two concerns about a birdcage veil.

#1-FH will not like it (I am sure other people won't either but who cares about them because they will talk about me anyway!

#2-It will be a hassle to put on and take off-I wouldn't want to wear it in every photo which means for our formal portraits and bridal portaits, we'd have to do 'halfsies'-half with and half without.

My only other veil option is to do a center gathered one so it falls just simply. I don't loom right with the tiered poofy traditional veils-swallow me up.

If anyone finds idea, let me know. Here is one I liked but need to try both styles (BC and this one) on.

I know that Brides Head Revisited, which is a very expensive, but wonderful, bridal veil and milliner, makes them. Their website has a woman in one right on the homepage. I don't think they have a showroom of their own, but you could call around and see if anyone who carries their line has the birdcage veil. It's such a different look I'm sure they won't think anything of it if you then say 'I have to think about it' and go home to order a cheaper version! (As I'm sure theirs is in the many hundreds of dollars range.)

BridesHead Revisited

I know what you mean about the two versions of your wedding in your head. I had the same thing. Before we booked our RH, I had this idea of a very funky, outdoor, Martha Stewart-style backyard tented wedding with vintage linens and my collection of midcentury lemondade pitchers holding bunches of wildflowers as the CPs, and me in a Fifties tea-length dress with a crinolined skirt and a cute birdcage veil. But we didn't have a backyard to do it in, the tent was out of our price range anyway, and that sort of look would have clashed horribly with our RH. So it's country club, roses, and a traditional satin and embroidered gown.

Anyway, I think you'll look adorable in a birdcage veil, and I think you'll be surprised how much people will like it when they see it.

I bought a yard of birdcage veil material on ebay for $7.50. Stick two combs on the sides and that's it - birdcage veil.
